About the Role
Are you a strategic thinker with a passion for maritime logistics and business growth? Our client, a leading shipping and logistics company, is seeking a Commercial Executive to drive business expansion on Lake Victoria, focusing on cargo transport between Mwanza and Uganda.
This role requires a proactive professional with strong sales, negotiation, and client relationship management skills to optimize operations and grow market share in the East African trade corridor.
Key Responsibilities
Business Development & Sales
· Market Expansion: Identify and pursue new business opportunities to enhance cargo volumes on a new ship, the first roll-on/roll-off freight vessel on Lake Victoria.
· Identify and secure new business opportunities in cargo and freight logistics.
· Develop and implement sales strategies to expand market reach and increase cargo volumes.
· Build and maintain strong relationships with importers, exporters, and key stakeholders in the logistics sector.
· Analyze market trends and competitor activities to refine growth strategies.
Operations & Logistics Management
· Work closely with operations teams to ensure efficient scheduling, cargo handling, and vessel utilization.
· Ensure compliance with maritime laws, customs regulations, and safety standards.
· Monitor and report on logistics performance, identifying areas for improvement.
Contract & Pricing Management
· Negotiate contracts and pricing structures with clients and partners.
· Develop and maintain strong relationships with government authorities, port officials, and regulatory bodies.
· Ensure all agreements align with business goals and market dynamics.
Market Research & Strategic Insights
· Conduct industry research to identify new market opportunities and optimize service offerings.
· Provide data-driven insights to senior management for strategic decision-making.
Customer Relationship Management
· Provide exceptional client service, addressing inquiries and resolving shipment-related concerns.
· Organize client meetings, port visits, and networking events to strengthen business relationships.
Requirements & Qualifications
· Bachelor’s degree in Business, Logistics, Maritime Studies, or a related field.
· Professional Experience: Minimum of 5 years in commercial roles within the shipping, logistics, or transportation sectors, preferably with experience in East African trade routes.
· Industry Knowledge: Familiarity with Lake Victoria's shipping corridors, regional trade dynamics, and the operational aspects of roll-on/roll-off vessels.
· Skills: Proven negotiation prowess, strong analytical abilities, and excellent communication skills.
· Technical Proficiency: Experience with logistics management software and a solid understanding of maritime regulations.
Preferred Skills & Competencies:
· Language Proficiency: Fluency in English and Swahili; additional knowledge of regional languages is advantageous.
· Leadership Qualities: Demonstrated ability to lead cross-functional teams and manage projects effectively.
· Cultural Awareness: Understanding of the socio-economic landscape of East Africa and its impact on trade and logistics.
