Job description

Job Summary We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Furniture Carpenter / Cabinet Maker to join our team. In this role, you will be responsible for bringing our clients' visions to life by crafting high-quality, custom furniture based on diagrams, reference pictures, and custom specifications. The ideal candidate must possess exceptional woodworking skills, a strong eye for detail, and a commitment to rigorous quality checks to ensure flawless final products that meet and exceed client expectations. Key Responsibilities Custom Furniture Fabrication: Interpret client briefs, technical diagrams, sketches, and reference photographs to construct high-quality custom furniture (e.g., wardrobes, beds, tables, and cabinets). Material Selection & Preparation: Source, select, measure, cut, shape, and smooth appropriate wood, laminates, veneers, and alternative materials based on project requirements. Joinery & Assembly: Apply precise joinery techniques (dowel, mortise and tenon, biscuit joints) and securely assemble pieces using appropriate adhesives, screws, and hardware. Finishing Touches: Sand, stain, seal, paint, or varnish surfaces to achieve the desired textures and custom finishes required by the client. Rigorous Quality Control: Perform thorough quality checks at every production stage—verifying structural alignment, exact dimensions, stability, and hardware functionality before final client delivery. Workshop Maintenance: Safely operate and maintain woodworking machinery and power tools (e.g., table saws, routers, sanders, planers) while keeping a clean, hazard-free workspace. Job Requirements & Qualifications Experience: Proven experience (minimum 3 - 5 years) working as a professional furniture maker or joiner in a commercial workshop. A portfolio of past custom furniture work is highly desirable. Technical Skills: Exceptional ability to accurately interpret hand-drawn sketches, technical diagrams, and digital pictures to turn them into structural realities. Certifications: Holder of a Government Trade Test Certificate (Grade III, II, or I) in Carpentry and Joinery or equivalent technical artisan training is an added advantage. Material Knowledge: In-depth understanding of different types of wood (hardwoods, softwoods, MDF, plywood), structural hardware, fasteners, and finishing products available in the Kenyan market. Attention to Detail: Meticulous precision in measurements and an uncompromising stance on structural quality and aesthetic finishes.
