Head of Accounts

Philomath University invites applications from qualified, competent and detail-oriented professionals for the position of Head of Accounts. The successful candidate will oversee the University's accounting operations, ensure accurate financial reporting, maintain effective internal controls and support sound financial decision-making. Key Responsibilities ⁠Oversee the University's daily accounting operations and financial transactions. ⁠Prepare, review and maintain accurate financial statements, reports and accounting records. ⁠Monitor income, expenditure and budget performance. ⁠Ensure timely bank reconciliations and proper documentation of financial transactions. ⁠Maintain effective internal controls and support compliance with applicable financial and statutory requirements. ⁠Coordinate internal and external audits and ensure proper financial record-keeping. ⁠Supervise the Accounts Unit and provide periodic financial reports to Management. Qualifications and Requirements ⁠Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance or a related discipline from a recognised institution. ⁠Minimum of five (5) years' relevant accounting experience, preferably with supervisory responsibilities. ⁠ICAN or ACCA qualification is an added advantage. ⁠Sound knowledge of accounting principles, financial reporting, budgeting and bank reconciliation. ⁠Working knowledge of Nigerian tax laws and statutory financial reporting requirements. ⁠Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and familiarity with accounting software. ⁠Strong analytical, organisational and problem-solving skills. ⁠High standards of integrity, accountability, confidentiality and attention to detail. ⁠Good communication and interpersonal skills.
