Pipeline Technician Apprentice
Reporting To: Pipeline Specialist
Location: Based at the HQ with frequent travel to field sites.
The Pipeline Technician Apprentice will support the Pipeline Team in installing, maintaining, and troubleshooting INUMA™ Mini-grid pipeline systems. This role provides hands-on training in pipeline installation, trench excavation, meter connection, and maintenance, ensuring compliance with Water Access Rwanda’s pipeline standards.
Key Result Areas:
- Pipeline Installation Support: Assist in laying pipes, connecting fittings, and installing various pipeline components.
- Trench Excavation: Support the excavation of trenches (minimum 80 cm deep) and verify their length and depth.
- Meter Installation: Help install prepaid meters for individual households, ensuring correct water pressure (0.6–1.6 bars).
- Pipeline Maintenance: Work alongside technicians to identify and fix leakages or pipeline malfunctions.
- Field Reporting & Data Collection: Gather relevant pipeline data and assist in transmitting information for network expansion or maintenance.
- Workshop & Assembly Support: Assist in plumbing, component assembly, and other production tasks when no active pipeline work is ongoing.
Responsibilities:
- Assist in collecting site data for pipeline planning and installation.
- Support the team in pipeline extension projects and unexpected private connection requests.
- Help ensure quality control by confirming the proper connection of pipes, valves, and fittings.
- Report and document field activities, including any pipeline issues, using company platforms.
- Maintain tools and equipment, ensuring they remain in good working condition.
- Follow all safety procedures to ensure a secure work environment.
- Assist in emergency repairs to minimize water supply interruptions.
- Work closely with the Foreman and regional technicians to ensure project success.
Qualifications & Skills:
- Education: Degree/Certificate or diploma in Plumbing, Water Engineering, or a related field.
- Technical Knowledge: Basic understanding of pipeline systems, fittings, and water pressure regulation.
- Physical Stamina: Ability to work in outdoor environments and perform physically demanding tasks.
- Teamwork & Communication: Strong ability to follow instructions and collaborate with senior technicians.
- Problem-Solving: Willingness to learn troubleshooting techniques and repair strategies.
- Commitment to Safety: Awareness of workplace safety and environmental practices.
