Job Purpose
The Account Officer is responsible for supporting the Company's financial and accounting operations through accurate financial record-keeping, transaction processing, account reconciliation, expense monitoring and preparation of financial reports.
The role ensures financial transactions are properly documented, records are up to date, and accounting activities follow the Company's financial policies and procedures.
The Account Officer will work under the Chief Accountant's supervision to maintain financial accuracy, support effective financial control, and provide timely accounting information to Management.
Key Responsibilities
Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of all financial transactions, including receipts, payments and expenses.
Process approved invoices, payment requests and other accounting transactions.
Monitor accounts payable and receivable, and follow up on outstanding balances.
Prepare bank reconciliations and investigate financial discrepancies.
Assist in preparing monthly financial reports, schedules and management accounts.
Support payroll documentation, statutory deduction schedules and other assigned accounting activities.
Ensure proper documentation, filing and safekeeping of financial records.
Assist with internal and external audits by providing relevant financial records.
Ensure compliance with company financial policies, procedures and internal controls.
Report errors, irregularities and suspicious transactions promptly to the Chief Accountant.
Perform other accounting duties as assigned by the Chief Accountant or Management.
Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)
Accuracy and completeness of financial records.
Timely processing of transactions and submission of reports.
Accuracy and timely completion of bank reconciliations.
Effective monitoring of receivables and outstanding balances.
Compliance with accounting procedures and internal controls.
Proper documentation and timely identification of discrepancies.
Professionalism, integrity and confidentiality.
Requirements
Bachelor's Degree or HND in Accounting, Finance or a related discipline with 2 years experience
Experience in a publishing or manufacturing firm is an added advantage
Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and accounting software.
Good numerical, analytical and organisational skills.
High level of integrity, attention to detail and confidentiality.
Ability to meet deadlines and work effectively under supervision.
