Accountant at a Reputable Company - Accountant
Role Summary
We are seeking a highly organized and detail-oriented Accountant to manage our daily financial operations. The ideal candidate will be responsible for maintaining accurate financial records, managing payables and receivables, reconciling depot inventory, and ensuring compliance with local tax regulations.
Note: This position is strictly for mid-level professionals. (e.g., ACA, ACCA) an added advantage
Key Responsibilities
Financial Operations & Bookkeeping
Post daily financial transactions into the company's accounting software accurately and promptly.
Manage Accounts Payable (AP) and Accounts Receivable (AR), ensuring timely invoicing of clients and payment of vendors, transporters, and depot operators.
Process staff claims, operational advances, and ensure proper retirement of expenses.
Inventory & Depot Reconciliation
Reconcile product waybills, loading tickets, and delivery notes against invoiced quantities for products (PMS, AGO, DPK, Lubricants).
Conduct weekly and monthly reconciliations of physical depot stock versus book balances.
Investigate and report any discrepancies, shortages, or transit losses immediately.
Bank Reconciliation & Cash Flow
Prepare weekly and monthly bank reconciliation statements for all corporate accounts.
Monitor daily cash balances and provide accurate cash flow updates to management to aid procurement and lifting decisions.
Tax & Regulatory Compliance
Prepare and process statutory deductions, including Value Added Tax (VAT), Withholding Tax (WHT), and PAYE.
Ensure timely remittance to the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS) and Lagos State Internal Revenue Service (LIRS).
Assist external auditors during the annual audit process by preparing requested schedules and documentation.
Financial Reporting
Assist the Finance Manager in preparing monthly management accounts and trial balances.
Generate weekly reports on sales margins, logistics costs, and outstanding debts.
Qualifications & Requirements
Education: BSc or HND in Accounting, Finance, or a related discipline.
Experience: 4 to 6 years of practical accounting experience. Previous experience in downstream oil and gas, petroleum marketing, or a logistics-heavy sector is highly preferred.
Professional Status: Must not be a fully chartered accountant. Candidates who are part-qualified (e.g., in the student stages of ICAN/ACCA) or strictly possess a degree with practical experience are the target for this role.
Software Proficiency: Hands-on experience with accounting ERPs is mandatory. High proficiency in Sage 50 Cloud Accounting is a significant advantage.
Technical Skills: Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel (VLOOKUP, Pivot Tables, conditional formatting).
Industry Knowledge: Solid understanding of Nigerian tax laws and downstream petroleum marketing operations.
