JOB PURPOSE

To assist in the delivery of a high quality after-school programme, providing a safe, engaging and fun environment for pupils, while supporting the Team Lead and other staff members.

OVERVIEW OF THE ROLE

The After school Programme Assistant plays a vital role in supporting students during the after school hours by fostering a safe, engaging and structured environment, The role contributes to student development through meaningful engagement in recreational, academic and enrichment activities, including homework support, while ensuring safeguarding policies are upheld at all times.

RELATIONSHIPS

The After school Programme Assistant is selected by the Director of Schools in consultation with the HOS/DHOS and HR.

The After school Programme Assistant will report directly to the After school Team Lead. However, in the absence of the Team Lead, he/she will report to the Head of Admin who will also provide strategic leadership and day to day oversight. The After school Programme Assistant works closely with the Team Lead, teachers, school administrators and parents/guardians.

RESPONSIBILITIES


Supervise students in after-school programs, ensuring safety and positive behaviour at all times.
Provide academic support and homework supervision, helping students stay focused and complete assigned tasks.
Design and deliver age-appropriate enrichment activities (e.g., arts, sports, storytelling, games, creative learning).
Promote positive social interaction and inclusion among students through group engagement activities.
Maintain consistent communication with the afterschool coordinator regarding student participation, challenges, and behaviour.
Escort students safely to and from classrooms, activities, and pick-up points, ensuring proper handover to authorized guardians.
Support students emotionally and socially by being a calm and attentive adult presence.
Ensure materials and activity spaces are well-prepared and restored after use.
Uphold safeguarding procedures and report incidents immediately according to policy.
Participate in staff meetings and contribute to planning sessions for afterschool programming.
Maintain accurate attendance records and provide feedback on student progress or concerns.


KEY PERFORMANCE INDICATORS


Student Engagement Rate: At least 85% of students participate actively in activities each week.
Homework Completion Rate: 90%+ of students complete assigned tasks during program hours.
Behaviour Management: Reduction in behavioural incidents through effective supervision and engagement.
Timely Reporting and Communication: Reports on incidents or safeguarding concerns are submitted within 24 hours.
Parent/Guardian Feedback: Positive feedback from at least 80% of parents on student experience and communication.
Program Implementation: Delivery of at least 2 structured enrichment activities per week.
Attendance Accuracy: 100% accuracy in student attendance and sign-out records.

QUALIFICATION & EXPERIENCE


A degree; additional certification in education, youth development, or childcare is an advantage.
Experience working with children in a school or after-school setting.
Experience working with children or in a school/educational setting is required.
Strong communication, teamwork, interpersonal, and conflict resolution skills.
Ability to lead activities and engage diverse student groups.
Ability to work flexibly and respond to changing circumstances
First Aid and Safeguarding training.
