Reports to: Partnership and Project Senior Officer
The Agri-Climate Business Development Officer is integral to driving the successful implementation of innovative agricultural loan products. This role involves refining and overseeing tailored financial products while understanding the unique needs of smallholder farmers. As a subject matter expert and leader, the Officer will convene MFI teams, consultants (where applicable), and stakeholders, ensuring sustained growth and resilience in VisionFund Kenya's agricultural lending initiatives. In this role, the Agri-Climate Business Development Officer will influence knowledge leadership within the agricultural landscape.
The holder of this position will focus and deliver on the following key responsibilities:
Product Rollout & Implementation (20%)
Drive adoption of newly developed agricultural loan products for groups and individuals
Ensure alignment with VisionFund Kenya's climate strategy and sustainability goals
Collaborate with credit and business development teams to optimize product delivery processes
Contribute to the development of an MFI's agriculture master planning for the agricultural lending unit, delineating clear short-term and long-term goals.
Loan Disbursement (25%)
Achieve FY2026 target of KES 13,000,000 disbursed to 200 clients (70% groups, 30% individuals) between Jan - Sept 2026
Maintain portfolio quality with PAR 1 and PAR 30 at zero
Client Training & Engagement (20%)
Conduct monthly training sessions (9 per year) on agri-finance, climate-smart agriculture, and loan management
Facilitate mandatory monthly group meetings
Ensure at least 90% client attendance in all trainings
Monitoring & Reporting (20%)
Submit monthly reports by the 5th of each month
Track loan utilization for 100% of clients
Develop four success stories annually
Attend all required VFI meetings
Climate-Smart Agriculture Integration (15%)
Promote practices that mitigate climate risks and enhance farmer resilience
Provide technical guidance on sustainable farming techniques
JOB REQUIREMENTS
The ideal Candidate should possess an Agricultural Extension and/or Business-related course from a recognized College/University and must have at least 3 years' experience in Agri-climate products design and small farmers engagement in a microfinance or financial institution. Demonstrates strong product knowledge, sales, negotiation, partnerships, and interpersonal skills, and the ability to work with minimum supervision are key attributes.
