Job Overview:

The AI Learning Specialist will play a critical role in building the IRC's organizational capacity to use AI tools effectively and responsibly across its global operations. Working closely with the Learning & Development Team and AI Task Forces, this role designs, develops, and delivers comprehensive learning solutions that enable staff to integrate AI confidently and ethically into their daily work. The specialist approaches learning holistically, collaborating with teams to understand existing processes and systems, identify performance gaps, and develop contextually appropriate solutions. Outputs will span workflow-embedded learning experiences, facilitated live sessions, and multilingual resources in formats including e-learning, microlearning, job aids, and guides, reaching technical staff, program teams, and leadership across field and office locations.

The ideal candidate brings deep knowledge of generative AI capabilities alongside strong instructional design expertise and a genuine commitment to capacity building in international development settings. They are comfortable working in rapidly evolving technology environments, can evaluate AI tools critically for organizational and ethical fit, and know how to translate complex AI concepts into practical, accessible learning experiences for diverse, globally distributed audiences.

Major Responsibilities:

Learning Program Design & Development


Establish the foundational baseline, by designing a concise, high-impact foundational AI literacy experience accessible to all staff
Build solutions that bring learning into the flow of work. Identify opportunities to embed gen AI into learning, enable staff to practice skills, explore role-specific use cases, coach and contextualize AI skills in real work situations
Source, curate and create engaging, accessible learning experiences in multiple formats: facilitated live coaching and demonstration, self-paced eLearning courses, microlearning modules, video tutorials, job aids, quick reference guides, and interactive workshops
Develop scenario-based learning activities that reflect real humanitarian work contexts and challenges
Ensure all learning materials adhere to adult learning principles, are optimized for low-bandwidth environments where applicable, and are available in core IRC languages where needed
Integrate principles of responsible AI use, data protection, and ethical considerations into all learning materials
Promote awareness of AI risks, limitations, and appropriate use cases in humanitarian contexts


Upskilling Delivery & Facilitation


Facilitate live virtual hands-on training sessions with generative AI tools and applications for real-time demonstration, experimentation, and feedback
Provide coaching and support to staff at various skill levels, from AI beginners to advanced users
Develop and deliver specialized training for specific use cases and staff types/profiles


Stakeholder Collaboration & Needs Assessment


Partner closely with the AI Staff and Culture Task Force and other AI working groups to align learning initiatives with organizational AI strategy
Gather feedback from learners and conduct regular needs assessments with staff across regions and departments to identify learning gaps, determine effectiveness, and establish priorities
Collaborate with IT, Data, and other technical teams to stay current on AI tool implementations and changes, and where to integrate learning touchpoints into technology platforms
Equip a cohort of "learner-teachers" across departments and managers with contextual AI skills, habits and language


Learning Analytics & Continuous Improvement


Track learning metrics including participation rates, completion rates, skill assessments, and learner satisfaction
Analyze learning data to identify trends, measure impact, and demonstrate ROI of AI capacity building efforts
Improve learning programs based on data insights and user feedback
Document best practices and lessons learned for organizational knowledge management

Requirements:


Minimum 4-6 years of experience in learning and development, instructional design, or training delivery
Advanced knowledge and use of generative AI applications (e.g., ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, Microsoft Copilot) including prompt engineering, AI-assisted content creation, AI workflow integration, and AI capabilities and limitations
Demonstrated experience designing and executing upskilling programs across a range of mediums, including eLearning courses and digital learning content
Experience working in international development, humanitarian, or nonprofit sectors strongly preferred
Experience creating multilingual or cross-cultural learning programs a plus
Strong proficiency with eLearning authoring tools (e.g., Articulate 360)
Familiarity with Learning Management Systems (LMS) and learning analytics platforms
Strong understanding of change management principles and experience implementing/supporting change
Proficiency with Microsoft 365, Google Workspace, and collaboration tools
Experienced in innovative approaches to learning design that engages and motivates adult learners
Fluency in English required. Professional proficiency in French, Spanish, or Arabic preferred
