Minimum Requirements for Assistant Dean:
A Doctoral and underpinning qualifications in Commerce or related field (e.g Management Sciences)
At least 10 years' higher education experience (with at least 5 years' relevant experience at a senior level)
A demonstrable track record of leadership and mentorship
Relevant Higher Education management and coordination experience in programme design and curriculation at undergraduate and post- graduate level as well as a working knowledge of processes within DHET, CHE & SAQA.
Evidence of involvement in faculty and institutional committees (i.e. Teaching and Learning; Curriculum officer committee; WIL committee; Language; ECP; etc.)
Proven track record and track of successful supervision of postgraduate students
A thorough understanding of the South African Higher Education landscape
Knowledge of the academic offering of the faculty
Professor/Associate Professor
A Doctoral and underpinning qualifications in Commerce or related field (e.g Management Sciences).
A minimum of 6 years relevant experience in higher education.
Successful supervision of Master's and Doctoral students.
A track record in accredited research output in DHET accredited journals
Recommendations
Preference will be given to a person that has at least 4 years' experience in a department/ programme coordinating or senior portfolio role within a Commerce department.
Preference will be given to applicants registered with any of the statutory professional bodies in Commerce and that have been involved in professional body accreditation processes both internally and externally.
Key Performance Areas / Principal Accountabilities
Lead and manage all academic programmes including undergraduate Mainstream and Extended programmes Curriculum Development (Manage the HEQSF process, including the development of Work Integrated Learning) Quality Assurance of the Academic Project including Professional body accreditations.
Infrastructure and Enrolment Planning
Manage student success rates and through put rates.
Manage the Industry Advisory boards (departmental and faculty) Manage the faculty Health and Safety
Manage the Teaching and Learning within the faculty (including CE; WIL; etc.) Manage the Student Engagement activities within the faculty.
Academic and professional leadership
Academic, financial and operational management
Establish partnerships with other academic institutions (nationally and internationally), relevant government departments, professional bodies, community organizations and schools.
Market and enhance the image of the Faculty and the University Share responsibility for the management of the faculty.
Chair and participate in relevant Faculty committees.
Facilitate, manage and maintain sound internal staff and student relations as well as their development.
Support the consolidation and harmonization of programmes on and across all engineering campuses and sites of delivery.
Manage the T&L related partnership such as with collaborations with TVETs; cross boarder qualifications; dual or co- badged qualifications.
Manage academic staff development, qualifications and workloads.
