The Job


To produce annual Company budget and forecasts including monitoring and controlling expenditure as cost controller for NSML.
To analyse, interpret and present financial information and reports in order to facilitate Management decision making, aid development of strategies and value maximization for Company.


The duties will include, but are not limited to the following:


Collate budget inputs/submissions from all budget holders and work closely with budget holders to timely produce NSML annual budget and four-year forecasts in compliance with business plan and budget guidelines, timelines and assumptions. Organise budget challenge sessions with budget holders and assist to provide reasonable analyses and justifications for the budgets.
Manage the performance reporting process by preparing and circulating the monthly Budget Performance Report (BPR). Monitor and compare actual spend to budget, provide budget variance analysis and provide financial advice on cost reduction and income generating initiatives using trend analysis.
Provide budget clearance for spend including monitoring of expenditures and periodic presentation and reporting on variances. Co-ordinate the review of budget performance and the challenge of variances between actual and planned spending. Assist budget holders in developing year end outlooks (YEOs) and advise on the most appropriate approach to budget virement (where necessary)
Provide support to budget holders so that budgets are operated effectively and work with budget holders to establish monthly value of work done (VOWD) and execute monthly cost reallocation, amortization and accrual activities (including reconciliation of accruals).
Prepare monthly management reports and quarterly/annual Management Accounts for presentation to NSML Management, Shareholders and Board.
Ensure the proper administration of the cash call funding and returns process including reconciliation with vessel/terminal owners, manning agents, and contractors to ensure accuracy and completeness. Coordinate and ensure smooth cost verification exercises.
Prepare segment financial reports and analyses income and expenditure of each of the NSML business segments and work with Head, Finance to provide models, scenarios, advice and recommendations on how to reduce costs, improve the profitability of the Business including costings for new initiatives.
Develop, implement and update (as appropriate) detailed procedures in relation to budgeting, performance monitoring and cost control guidelines. This includes reviewing and developing improvements in reporting, presentation and data quality. Develop and ensure periodic update of NSF Department content in the Integrated Management system and Company Website.


The Person

The right candidate should:


Possess a university first degree in Accounting, Finance, Economics, Mathematics and Statistics, Actuarial Science, Management or a Finance related Discipline with a minimum of Second-Class Upper (2.1) Division.
Possess a professional accounting qualification: ICAN, ACCA, CIMA, CFA.
Have minimum 5 years post-graduation experience in a Finance related role. Cognate experience in the Maritime or Logistics industry will be an added advantage.
Be skilled in financial modelling and forecasting, financial analysis, cost accounting and data analysis.
Possess good communication, negotiating and interpersonal skills.
Be a Self-starter
Be fluent in English Language
