                                        Job Overview: The Health & Wellness (H&W) Caseworker will address barriers to mental health services and wellness supports for especially vulnerable Spanish-speaking clients residing in Contra Costa County. The H&W caseworker will be expected to conduct community outreach and provide culturally appropriate mental health education and healthy coping strategies via workshops and groups. They will plan and implement outreach activities throughout Contra Costa county with community partners to engage Spanish-speaking newcomers, conduct pre- and post- assessments on client’s knowledge and understanding of mental health and stress management, and assist with effective referrals to programs offered by IRC Oakland (i.e. PC case management, newcomer and youth programs) as well as those offered by external service providers we partner with. They can work closely with clients, colleagues, and external parties to coordinate referrals and develop service plans to meet individual client needs and preferences utilizing a broad range of financial, medical, social, vocational, and other services and resources in accordance with client eligibility and program requirements.
Major Responsibilities:
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Determine client eligibility for PC programming and other IRC direct service programs to conduct screening assessments (such as the RHS-15), review program expectations, outcomes, and confidentiality with each potential client.
- Provide resource navigation and referrals as needed, such as assistance navigating healthcare and social service systems.
- Provide individual cultural orientation and education on various social services as needed.
- Create, plan and implement psycho-social workshop programming, including topics related to managing mental health such as emotional regulation, self-empowerment, and goal setting.
- Conduct knowledge assessments with clients before and after workshops to measure outcomes. Complete intake and report documentation as required by funder.
- Update mental health education tools and existing wellness workshop curriculum to ensure it is linguistically and culturally appropriate for Spanish-speakers.
- Conduct community outreach and maintain a strong network of service providers that meet client needs. The H&W outreach case worker may also be expected to maintain a strong relationship with local and state level refugee coordinators and health coordinators to ensure client needs are met.
- Respond to client crises, with guidance from supervisor as needed.
- Maintain up-to-date documentation in client’s case file to ensure services are properly documented throughout the client’s service period; document all services provided in IRC’s database, Efforts to Outcomes (ETO).
- Attend relevant trainings and meetings at the local and national level.
- May train and lead the activities of volunteers and interns.

Job Requirements:
Education: Bachelor’s degree in social work, public health, or related field of study preferred.
Work Experience:
- 1-2 years of relevant work experience. A significant portion of this experience would include responsibilities in community-based services, social services, education, capacity building and/or humanitarian relief.
Demonstrated Skills & Competencies:
- Strong relationship building, diplomacy, and networking skills; ability to effectively build internal and external relationships.
- Understanding of community integration, resettlement, and cross-cultural awareness.
- Demonstrated success working and communicating effectively in a multi-cultural environment.
- Self-starter with excellent problem-solving skills combined with the proven ability to prioritize and manage time effectively.
- Attention to detail and accuracy in work product.
- Fluent in English and Spanish required, both spoken and written
- Proficient in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, Outlook); ability to use the internet and other digital tools for data entry, research, and problem-solving purposes. Competency using Zoom and Teams for virtual meetings and workshops.
- Valid driver’s license and access to a personal, insured vehicle.
Working Environment:
- A combination of standard office environment, remote work, and ‘field’ time within the service delivery area to perform the above outlined responsibilities.
- May require occasional weekend and/or evening work.
Compensation: (Pay Range: $29.10 - $30.00) Posted pay ranges apply to US-based candidates. Ranges are based on various factors including the labor market, job type, internal equity, and budget. Exact offers are calibrated by work location, individual candidate experience and skills relative to the defined job requirements.
