The Chief Operations Officer (COO) will be responsible for designing, implementing, and overseeing the hospital's operational systems to ensure seamless patient flow and five-star service delivery. The role bridges clinical excellence and business sustainability, ensuring that the hospital's high-tech infrastructure (power, IT, biomedical systems) operates at optimal capacity to support life-saving interventions.
Responsibilities
Oversee a zero-downtime power strategy, managing hybrid systems including gas turbines/generators, solar power, and the national grid.
Supervise biomedical engineering teams to ensure preventive and corrective maintenance of high-end medical equipment (MRI, CT scanners, Cath Labs) with target uptime of 98 - 99%.
Implement robust security and logistics protocols suited to the South-South environment, ensuring the safety of patients, staff, and assets.
Manage a global and local supply chain for specialized medical consumables to ensure zero stock-outs.
Negotiate service agreements and parts replacement with international OEMs such as GE, Siemens, and Philips.
Optimize the patient journey from triage to discharge using the Hospital Management Information System (HMIS) to reduce wait times.
Oversee non-clinical services including hospitality, catering, laundry, and facility services to ensure a premium patient experience.
Collaborate with the CFO to manage operational budgets, control costs, and reduce wastage across departments.
Ensure full compliance with the National Health Act, HEFAMAA (where applicable), and regional environmental and safety regulations.
Requirements
Bachelor's degree in Healthcare Administration, Business Administration, Engineering, or a related field.
MBA or Master's in Health Systems Management is highly desirable.
Minimum of 12 years' operational experience, with at least 5 years in a senior management role within a multidisciplinary hospital or a high-intensity industrial environment (e.g., Oil & Gas, FMCG).
Strong understanding of health informatics, hospital operations, and advanced diagnostic equipment.
Proven experience navigating the socio-political and logistical landscape of South-South Nigeria.
