Education, Skills and Experience

Must have:


Bachelor's Degree in relevant area of specialization from a recognized academic institution.
Must have at least three (3) years' experience as a Deputy Chief Security Officer or in a comparable position
Must have worked with any of the disciplined forces of Kenya or any other reputable security firm
Must possess a clean discharge certificate
Must possess a certificate of good conduct
Must possess first aid certificate
Must possess fire-fighting certificate
Must be computer literate


OR


Must have served as a commissioned officer in the disciplined forces at the level of superintendent of police or administration police or equivalent in the armed forces.
Must have at least five (5) years' experience as Deputy chief security officer or at a comparable position
Must be computer literate.
Must possess a clean discharge certificate
Must possess a certificate of good conduct
Must possess first aid certificate
Must possess fire-fighting certificate
Must be computer literate


Key Responsibilities

Reporting to: Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Administration, Planning & Institutional Advancement (DVC-APIA)

Duties and responsibilities:


Co-ordinate security operations, visit all scenes of crimes and dominant findings.
Supervise all contracted security firms, monitor their performance and effectiveness.
Carry out risk assessments and make recommendations to senior management, assessing level of risks in terms of wider issues such as international/national terrorism and safety issues.
Encourage University community to report all incidents and ensure that reports are analyzed in terms of trends emerging to inform decisions on cost effective deployment of staff, CCTV, intelligence gathering etc.
Be accountable for the security budget, staff and assets and efficient and effective provision of operational security services to the university installations.
Work with the Director Career and Alumni Affairs, Central Catering and Accommodations Service Managers and Manager, Estate and Facilities in order to facilitate an integrated estates security service.
Work with the Development Project Managers, Architects and Consulting Engineers to ensure that crime reduction strategies are in place on all refurbishment and new build projects.
Ensure 'Security by Design' principles are in place thus reducing the opportunity for crime in the university and campuses.
Work with the Directorate of Exams in ensuring security and integrity of the examination process.
Work with the Head of Protocol and others during the planning state and during actual events to ensure that Royal and other important visits to the university are safe and secure.
Advice senior management on confidential or sensitive matters and act as a conduit between the university and the police at all levels in order to expedite solutions to difficult situations.
Receive and deal with any information that has a security dimension and deal with this in a confidential manner.
Liaise with management, students, staff on matters of security in their areas of operation and report incidents to management and police.
Coordinate the training for all the staff and students on matters of security and safety operations to avoid major losses in case of unforeseen disaster.
Perform any other duty that may be assigned from time-time by management.
