Requirements :
Appropriate qualification that allows for registration with the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA) as a Medical Practitioner. A minimum of three (3) years' experience after completion of community service.
Demonstrated clinical expertise and leadership in neonatal, paediatric, and child health services at district, regional, or tertiary level. Additional training or qualification in child health, health management, or public health will be an advantage. Experience in clinical governance, health systems strengthening, quality improvement, and multidisciplinary collaboration.
Valid driver's licence and willingness to travel within the district. Understanding of National Core Standards and quality assurance frameworks. Knowledge of relevant legislation: Health Act, National Health Act, Public Service Act and Regulations, PFMA, and relevant labour relations legislation. Advanced clinical skills in midwifery, including management of high-risk pregnancies and obstetric emergencies.
Clinical leadership and mentorship capabilities. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, including root cause analysis. Excellent communication skills (written and verbal). Facilitation and presentation skills for training and capacity development. Computer literacy (MS Office Suite, DHIS, PPIP, and other health information systems).
Project management and coordination abilities. Data analysis and interpretation for quality improvement. Strategic planning and implementation capabilities. Ability to work in a multidisciplinary team environment. Change management and conflict resolution skills. Report writing and documentation skills. Reporting structure: will report to the DCST Team Lead.
Duties :
Provide strategic clinical leadership and oversight for neonatal and child health services within the Johannesburg Health District. Support the neonatal and child health component of the District Clinical Specialist Team (DCST) to strengthen quality of care, clinical governance, and service integration across all levels of care. Support the implementation of provincial and national policies relating to maternal, neonatal, child, and adolescent health. Conduct regular clinical audits, mentorship, and capacity-building initiatives for healthcare workers.
Collaborate with other members of the DCST and district management team to improve neonatal and child health outcomes. Contribute to data analysis, monitoring, and evaluation of neonatal and child health indicators.
Facilitate perinatal meetings and child health review forums at the facility and sub-district levels. Promote evidence-based clinical practice through guideline dissemination, training, and supportive supervision. Perform administrative and reporting duties related to clinical and programmatic management within the DCST.
