Responsibilities

Fertility Assessment & Care Coordination


Conduct comprehensive nursing assessments, including reproductive, medical, surgical, and psychosocial history.
Coordinate the patient fertility journey from initial consultation through treatment and pregnancy confirmation.
Schedule appointments, investigations, procedures, and laboratory services to ensure timely care.
Collaborate with physicians, embryologists, pharmacists, and laboratory teams to deliver seamless patient care.
Monitor treatment progress, identify risks, and promptly escalate complications such as Ovarian Hyperstimulation Syndrome (OHSS).


Patient Education & Clinical Support


Educate patients on fertility investigations, IVF protocols, medications, self-injections, procedures, post-treatment care, and follow-up.
Promote medication adherence and provide emotional support throughout the fertility journey, referring patients for counselling when needed.
Perform nursing procedures including vital signs monitoring, venipuncture, IV cannulation, specimen collection, pregnancy testing, medication administration, and recovery assessments.
Recognize and respond to treatment-related complications, including medication reactions, bleeding, infection, anesthetic complications, and vasovagal episodes.


Procedural Support


Assist clinicians during fertility procedures, including ultrasound monitoring, oocyte retrieval, embryo transfer, intrauterine insemination (IUI), hysteroscopy, endometrial biopsy, and fertility preservation procedures.
Prepare patients, equipment, and procedure rooms while providing post-procedure nursing care and monitoring recovery.
Ensure accurate documentation, patient identification, specimen labeling, chain of custody, and safe handling and transport of gametes, embryos, and reproductive tissues in collaboration with embryology teams.


Quality, Safety & Professional Practice


Participate in quality improvement, patient safety initiatives, clinical audits, and quality review meetings.
Maintain readiness of procedure rooms, recovery areas, emergency equipment, and resuscitation resources through routine checks.
Support inventory management of fertility medications and consumables, including temperature monitoring, and promptly report equipment failures.
Practice in accordance with Nursing Council of Kenya standards, mentor junior staff and students, and perform any other duties assigned by the supervisor.


Requirements:


Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) or equivalent.
Current registration/licensure with the Nursing Council of Kenya
Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification (preferred).
Additional certification or training in reproductive medicine or fertility nursing is desirable.
Minimum of three (3) years' post-registration clinical nursing experience.
At least two (2) years in reproductive medicine, women's health, gynaecology, obstetrics or IVF/fertility services are preferred.
Demonstrate knowledge of IVF, ICSI, IUI, embryo transfer, fertility medications and reproductive endocrinology.
