Requirements :
Senior/National Senior Certificate (Grade 12) certificate. Bachelor of Health Sciences in Clinical Technology (BHSc) in Clinical Technology - Specialized Category Pulmonology or appropriate qualification that allows registration with the Health Professions Council of South African HPCSA as an Independent Practice Clinical Technologist.
Proof of registration with HPCSA as an Independent Practice Clinical Technologist, Proof of current registration with the HPCSA from 01 April 2026 to 31 March 2027. To perform/provide a professional and specialized clinical technology service in the department of Pulmonology to the various clinical platforms at Steve Biko Academic Hospital.
Competencies (knowledge/skills): Should be able to have an understanding Policies and guidelines /criteria according to ATS, ERS, and SATS. Professional person with integrity and ability to perform under pressure, independently and in a team. Self-driven and result orientated. Good communication, report writing, presentation and interpersonal skills. Computer literate. Honest, patient, hardworking and reliable. Willingness to train students and present lectures.
Clinical Technologist Grade 1: No experience required after registration with HPCSA in the relevant profession in respect of RSA qualified employees who performed community service, as required in South Africa.
Clinical Technologist Grade 2: A minimum of 10 years of appropriate recognizable experience after registration with HPCSA in the relevant profession in respect of RSA qualified employees who perform community service, as required in South Africa.
Clinical Technologist Grade 3: A Minimum of 20 years of recognizable experience after registration as a Clinical Technologist with HPCSA in the relevant profession in respect of RSA qualified employees who perform community service, as required in South Africa.
Duties :
Effectively perform selected diagnostic, and/or therapeutic and/or corrective lung function procedures on Adult and Paediatric patients. Effectively perform and identify clinical technology quality control procedures on patients and apparatuses. Utilize resources efficiently and effectively in the workplace. Effectively contributes to the training of students. Daily calibration and sterilization of equipment. Must participate in CPD activities as required by the HPCSA.
