Job Summary
The Commercial Lorry Driver will be responsible for the safe and efficient transportation of goods to various destinations while ensuring compliance with all Kenyan road transport regulations. The role requires strict adherence to safety standards, proper documentation of cargo and vehicle operations, and maintaining the vehicle in good working condition. The driver will represent the company on the road and must demonstrate professionalism, reliability, and a strong commitment to safety and timely deliveries.
Key Responsibilities
Safely operate heavy commercial vehicles to transport goods to designated destinations.
Ensure timely delivery of goods while following assigned routes and schedules.
Conduct pre-trip and post-trip inspections to ensure the vehicle is roadworthy.
Ensure the cargo is properly loaded, secured, and protected from damage during transportation.
Maintain accurate records of delivery notes, transport logs, fuel usage, and trip reports.
Comply with all road safety rules, company policies, and transport regulations.
Report any mechanical issues, accidents, or delays to the Transport Manager immediately.
Ensure all transport documentation is properly filled and signed upon delivery.
Maintain cleanliness and basic maintenance of the assigned vehicle.
Coordinate with warehouse teams during loading and offloading of goods.
Observe defensive driving practices and maintain professionalism while on the road.
Requirements
NTSA Smart Driving License issued by the National Transport and Safety Authority.
Valid Certificate of Good Conduct issued by the Directorate of Criminal Investigations.
Completion of defensive driving training from an accredited institution.
Knowledge of road regulations set by the National Transport and Safety Authority.
Understanding of cargo documentation and transport compliance requirements.
KCSE certificate or equivalent education.
Valid Class BCE / CE driving license for heavy commercial vehicles.
Minimum 4 years experience driving heavy commercial trucks or trailers.
Experience driving long-distance or regional routes is an added advantage.
Strong knowledge of Kenyan road safety regulations.
Ability to handle long-distance driving and tight delivery schedules.
Basic vehicle maintenance and troubleshooting knowledge.
Good record-keeping and documentation skills.
High level of responsibility, discipline, and integrity.
Good communication and interpersonal skills.
Ability to work independently and under minimal supervision.
