The Communications Assistant will support the organization’s communications efforts across various platforms and channels. They will be pivotal in advancing our mission by assisting in the creation, implementation, and dissemination of our messaging to internal and external stakeholders.

Responsibilities

  • Collect, document and share success stories, best practices, and impact stories from the field to showcase Jhpiego’s work to donors, internal and external audiences.
  • In collaboration with the project leads and teams, develop and produce a variety of content to communicate Jhpiego’s mission and impact, including publications (e.g. newsletters) social media posts, website content, photographs, videos, partnership marketing materials, and other strategic communications as needed.
  • Provide communication support for events, conferences, campaigns, including photography, short briefs
  • Maintain and grow Jhpiego’s presence across social media platforms by proactively generating, scheduling, and posting engaging content to improve visibility in consultation with the Communications Manager.
  • Monitor media coverage of the organization’s activities and report relevant findings to the Communications Manager.
  • Assist in developing and implementing both internal and external communication strategies that align with Jhpiego’s mission and audience needs.
  • Ensure that all communications materials adhere to Jhpiego’s brand guidelines and donor requirements, maintaining consistent tone, style, and visual identity across all platforms
  • Provide support in ensuring administrative processes for the communications department is handled efficiently and effectively, including raising documentation for consultant’s engagement, consolidating documentation to process payments and any other administrative support required

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Journalism, Public Relations or a related field
  • At least three years of professional experience in communications, journalism, or public relations, preferably with an NGO or in the health sector
  • Demonstrated experience in creating content for diverse audiences and platforms, including social media, web content, and printed materials
  • Experience with digital tools and social media platforms, including but not limited to Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn, and Instagram
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, Photoshop), and content management systems (CMS) for website updates.
  • Knowledge of social media management tools (e.g., Hootsuite, Buffer) and analytics platforms (e.g., Google Analytics).
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with a keen eye for detail and a passion for storytelling.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, instilling trust and confidence
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines.
  • Proactive, creative, and adaptable, with a positive attitude and a willingness to learn.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to engage effectively with colleagues, media, and stakeholders.
