Job Purpose


The Consultant Emergency Medicine Physician will provide expert clinical leadership and deliver high-quality, urgent medical care to a diverse patient population. The role holder will be responsible for the assessment, diagnosis, treatment, and stabilization of patients presenting with acute illnesses and injuries. He/ She will supervise the Emergency Department (ED) team, ensure efficient patient flow, and uphold the highest standards of patient safety and clinical excellence in a fast-paced environment.


Key Accountabilities/Responsibilities

Clinical Leadership & Patient Care


Provide immediate and definitive medical care to critically ill and injured patients of all ages.
Lead and coordinate complex resuscitation efforts (e.g., trauma, cardiac arrest, sepsis).
Perform a wide range of emergency procedures (e.g., intubation, central line insertion, chest tube thoracostomy, fracture reduction) with a high degree of skill.
Interpret diagnostic tests including laboratory results, ECGs, and radiographic imaging (CT, X-ray, Ultrasound).
Make decisive decisions regarding patient admission, transfer, or discharge.


Team Supervision & Training


Provide direct clinical supervision and guidance to junior doctors, medical officers, nurses, and other emergency department staff.
Lead daily clinical rounds and handover meetings.
Act as a key educator, facilitating training sessions and simulation drills to enhance team capabilities.
Foster a collaborative and supportive multidisciplinary team environment.


Departmental Operations & Governance


Participate in the development, implementation, and audit of clinical protocols, pathways, and guidelines based on international best practices.
Contribute to strategic planning and resource allocation for the Emergency Department.
Ensure the department operates in compliance with all relevant healthcare regulations, accreditation standards, and hospital policies.
Champion patient safety initiatives and risk management processes.


Quality Improvement & Advocacy


Lead and participate in clinical audits, morbidity and mortality reviews, and quality improvement projects.
Analyze departmental performance metrics and implement strategies to improve patient flow, waiting times, and clinical outcomes.
Advocate for patients and the department within the hospital system.
Stay abreast of and integrate the latest evidence-based advances in emergency medicine.


Must have skills

Point-of-Care Ultrasound High-acuity

Qualifications


Medical Degree (MBBS/MD or equivalent) from a recognized institution.
Full registration and a valid license to practice with the national medical council.
Fellowship or Board Certification in Emergency Medicine from a recognized international body.
Minimum of 5 years of post-fellowship experience working as a specialist in Emergency Medicine.
Proven experience in a high-acuity, high-volume Emergency Department setting, preferably within an international or tertiary care centre.
Demonstrated leadership experience in supervising and training a multidisciplinary team.
Expertise in advanced life support, trauma management, and acute medical emergencies.
Proficiency in using point-of-care ultrasound (POCUS) in the ED.
Strong familiarity with Electronic Medical Records (EMR) systems.
Excellent communication, interpersonal, and crisis management skills.
