We are seeking a passionate and dedicated Creative Arts Teacher to join our Senior Phase team. The successful candidate will teach Creative Arts to Grades 8 and 9 students, delivering engaging and academically rigorous lessons that develop creative expression, practical skills, artistic appreciation, collaboration and critical thinking.
The role requires a teacher who is committed to high standards, meaningful student relationships and creating a dynamic, inclusive classroom environment. Experience in an independent or IEB school environment will be advantageous but is not essential.
Key Responsibilities
Plan and deliver high-quality Creative Arts lessons for Grades 8 and 9, aligned with CAPS and school curriculum requirements.
Encourage artistic expression, cultural appreciation, confidence, collaboration and critical reflection through engaging learning experiences.
Design, administer and mark formative and summative assessments in line with school assessment and moderation requirements.
Provide constructive, timely feedback to support student progress and creative development.
Monitor student performance, identify learning barriers and implement appropriate support or intervention strategies.
Maintain accurate academic records and communicate student progress professionally with parents and guardians.
Create a positive, inclusive and well-managed classroom environment that promotes participation, accountability and respect.
Collaborate with colleagues on curriculum planning, moderation, interdisciplinary learning opportunities and school initiatives.
Contribute to cultural activities, productions, exhibitions, performances and other co-curricular programmes where required.
Participate actively in staff development, academic meetings, school events and co-curricular programmes.
Remain informed of current developments in Creative Arts education, assessment practice and curriculum requirements.
Requirements
A relevant undergraduate degree in Creative Arts, Visual Arts or related field.
A recognised professional teaching qualification.
Current SACE registration.
Demonstrable experience teaching Creative Arts at Senior Phase level, preferably Grades 8 and 9.
Sound knowledge of CAPS and South African assessment practices.
Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Ability to plan effectively for a range of learning needs and support students with varying levels of ability.
Confidence in using digital tools and creative resources to support teaching, assessment and communication.
A commitment to student wellbeing, inclusion and academic excellence.
Preferred Qualifications and Experience
A relevant postgraduate qualification in Creative Arts, Education or a related field.
Experience in assessment design, moderation and academic intervention.
Experience contributing to school productions, exhibitions, performances or cultural events.
Participation in sport, cultural, service or other co-curricular activities.
Experience using educational technology and online learning platforms.
