Purpose of the Job: Reporting to the Manager: Database Administration, the successful incumbent is responsible for the efficient administration of database by conducting an analysis, design, creation and maintenance of all database.
Key Performance Areas
Database Maintenance and Design
Administration of existing enterprise databases and creation of new databases.
Proactively monitor database related dependent systems for optimum performance and capacity constraints.
Upgrade database software version and environment upgrades
Migrate data and data environment.
Define and/or implement access controls to the database
Provide support to the engineers in relation to database development.
Ensure integration of business applications and databases.
Security Administration
Monitor and administer DBMS security.
Administer quotas, audit trails and check for security problems.
Verify and assist in ensuring data integrity.
Availability
Ensure maximum uptime.
Ensure regular backups and test recoverability.
Ensure testing of standby services.
Policy Review and Implementation
Contribute to the development and implementation of departmental policy, standards and procedures and processes.
Keep up to date with effective policy and practice execution strategies.
Reporting
Provide up-to-date and accurate systems reports and activity reports
Provide Database Performance statistics.
Provide capacity reports of all hardware components.
Audit trails and Logs.
Ensure systems performance management and capacity planning.
Stakeholder Management
Facilitate and manage communication with relevant internal and external stakeholders in relation to investments and proactively and progressively manage the relationships.
Qualifications and Experience
Bachelor's Degree/ Advanced Diploma in Information Technology related qualification.
Relevant database certifications (e.g., Oracle OCA/ OCP, Microsoft SQL Server certifications/ IBM/ Informix certifications) will be an advantage.
Relevant 5 - 7 years' experience in Database Administration (design/ implementation/ maintenance) in a multi database environment.
Experience database availability.
Experience in monitoring DBMS security.
Experience working with cloud database solutions is an advantage.
