Job Purpose

To ensure the continuous, efficient, and safe operation of electromechanical installations critical to water production, treatment, and distribution. The Electromechanical Technician is responsible for the installation, planned maintenance, rapid fault diagnosis, repair, and performance optimization of pumps, motors, control panels, generators, valves, instrumentation, and associated systems, guaranteeing reliable service delivery, minimizing downtime, and complying with all relevant safety, environmental, and operational standards

Key Duties and Responsibilities


In liaison with the supervisor and approved service providers, carry out installation, testing, commissioning, and supervision of electromechanical equipment as directed.
Perform scheduled routine inspections, servicing, testing, and preventive maintenance of electromechanical equipment (including but not limited to pumps, motors, generators, control panels, valves, actuators, and instrumentation systems) in accordance with manufacturer's operation and maintenance manuals; accurately record all activities and submit reports.
Respond promptly to unscheduled/ad-hoc faults by conducting inspectionisR & SANITA troubleshooting, repairs, testing, and maintenance of electromecnarical quipment in line with approved procedures; document findings and submit detailed reports.
Participate in the preparation and updating of Standard Operating Procedures (SOPS), risk assessments, and emergency response plans for electromechanical systems.
Collaborate with the supervisor to review, plan, and prepare operational and maintenance schedules for pumps and other electromechanical equipment, based on designer/manufacturer guidelines, operational requirements, and energy-efficiency considerations; maintain proper records and submit reports.
Promptly identify, record, and report any anomalics or irregularities observed in electromechanical systems using the prescribed format, including rootcause analysis, conclusions, and recommended corrective/preventive actions.
Monitor and optimize energy consumption of electromechanical systems and propose measures to improve efficiency and reduce operational costs.
Maintain inventory of critical spares, tools, and consumables; initiate timely requisitions to ensure availability.
Ensure compliance with Health, Safety, and Environmental regulations during all installation, operation, and maintenance activities, including proper use of PPE, lock-out/tag-out procedures, and risk assessments.
Liaise with suppliers, contractors, and regulatory bodies when required


Minimum Qualifications and Experience


Diploma in Mechanical Engineering (Plant Option), Mechatronics Engineering, or an equivalent qualification from a recognized institution.
Minimum of three (3) years of hands-on experience in operation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of electromechanical systems, preferably in water supply, wastewater, or industrial process plants.
Registration/membership with the Engineers Board of Kenya (EBK) or the
Institution of Engineers of Kenya (IEK) is an added advantage.
Proficiency in Computer skills
