In this role you will be responsible for:
Support the Superintendent in implementing plant instrumentation and control strategies, standards and maintenance plans
Provide technical engineering support for plant instrumentation, PLC, SCADA, DCS, industrial networks and associated control infrastructure
Manage and support instrumentation personnel and contractors within the assigned area to achieve safety, quality, availability and cost targets
Ensure the safe and reliable installation, commissioning, maintenance and optimisation of instrumentation and control systems
Lead advanced fault finding, root cause analysis and failure-elimination activities, and ensure corrective actions are implemented
Develop and review preventative and predictive maintenance tasks, job plans, equipment records and critical spares in SAP PM
Monitor control-system and equipment performance and drive process optimisation, reliability and continuous improvement initiatives
Plan and coordinate instrumentation work for shutdowns and major outages, including quality control, commissioning and close-out
Develop technical scopes and specifications and coordinate the instrumentation aspects of capital projects, upgrades and plant modifications
Maintain software backups, configuration control, technical documentation and plant change-management requirements
Ensure compliance with engineering standards, statutory requirements, HSEC standards and company procedures
Participate in standby, provide second-line technical support during breakdowns, and coach and develop instrumentation team members
About you:
National Diploma (NQF 6) or higher in Electrical Engineering (Light Current/Process Instrumentation), Electronic Engineering or Mechatronic Engineering
Instrumentation Trade Test
Minimum 5 years' experience in industrial instrumentation, control systems and process optimisation within heavy industry, mining, smelting or metallurgical operations
At least three years' supervisory or technical team-lead experience
PLC, SCADA and DCS programming, development and fault-finding experience, Siemens PLC's will be an added advantage
Strong knowledge of field instrumentation, industrial communication networks, control-system configuration and plant interlocks
Demonstrated project management, shutdown, commissioning and continuous improvement experience
Computer literacy and practical experience with SAP PM, MES, MS Project, Excel and Outlook, supported by strong problem-solving and stakeholder-engagement skills
