Job Description
A Farm Accountant manages the financial activities of an agricultural business (crop farms, livestock operations, agribusiness firms, etc.). The role combines traditional accounting with farm-specific financial tracking.
Key Responsibilities:
Maintain accurate financial records (income, expenses, assets)
Prepare financial statements (profit & loss, balance sheets)
Monitor farm budgets and cash flow
Track production costs (seeds, feed, fertilizer, labor)
Handle payroll for farm workers
Manage inventory records (livestock, crops, supplies)
Ensure tax compliance and prepare tax returns
Analyze financial performance and advise farm management
Work with auditors, banks, or government agencies when needed
Requirements
Education:
Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
Professional certifications (e.g., ICAN, ACCA) are often an advantage
Experience:
2 - 5 years of accounting experience (farm or agribusiness experience is a plus)
Experience with bookkeeping and financial reporting
Skills:
Strong knowledge of accounting principles
Familiarity with agricultural operations (preferred)
Proficiency in accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks, Sage)
Good analytical and problem-solving skills
Attention to detail and accuracy
Ability to work independently and manage records efficiently
Other Requirements:
Basic understanding of farm operations (crop cycles, livestock management)
Ability to work in rural or farm environments (sometimes required)
