Our client is seeking an experienced and hands-on Farm Manager to oversee operations across two farms located in Kabati and Makuyu.
The successful candidate will be responsible for managing farm production, teams, resources and operational performance, with a particular focus on Black Soldier Fly (BSF) farming and organic waste bioconversion.
The Farm Manager will oversee the complete production cycle, including breeding, egg collection, larval rearing and harvesting, while ensuring appropriate environmental conditions, feedstock management, quality control, hygiene and biosecurity standards.
The role will also involve production planning, staff supervision, inventory management, record keeping, data analysis and working with management to achieve production and business targets.
Key Responsibilities
Oversee the day-to-day operations of both farms in Kabati and Makuyu.
Manage the full BSF production cycle, including adult fly breeding, egg collection, larval rearing and harvesting.
Monitor temperature, humidity, lighting and other environmental conditions affecting production.
Manage sourcing, receiving and processing of organic waste/feedstock.
Ensure consistent availability of suitable feedstock for production.
Implement appropriate measures to prevent contamination.
Maintain high standards of biosecurity, hygiene and sanitation.
Conduct quality checks on BSF products, including eggs, larvae and frass.
Supervise, train and coordinate farm technicians and other employees.
Allocate duties and monitor staff performance and productivity.
Manage procurement of raw materials and farm inputs.
Monitor inventory levels and usage.
Coordinate the distribution of finished products.
Maintain accurate farm production and operational records.
Analyse production data, yields and mortality rates to identify areas for improvement.
Identify and resolve production challenges and operational delays.
Work with management to achieve production targets and agreed KPIs.
Support production budgeting and forecasting of operational costs.
Identify opportunities to improve production efficiency and reduce losses.
Support research and implementation of improved BSF farming techniques and feed formulations.
Qualifications and Experience
Bachelors or Masters degree in Agriculture, Entomology, Animal Science, Biological Sciences or a related field.
3 - 6 years of relevant experience, preferably in BSF farming, insect farming, agricultural production or a related production environment.
Practical knowledge of BSF biology, lifecycle and farm-level bioconversion systems.
Experience managing production teams.
Experience working in a farm or production environment.
Knowledge of organic waste/feedstock management.
Experience maintaining production records and analysing operational data.
Experience in quality control, hygiene and biosecurity is an advantage.
