Job Summary
The Finance Manager is responsible for overseeing all financial operations of the Kano office, ensuring strong financial control, compliance, and strategic financial management. The role involves managing budgeting, cost control, financial reporting, and cash flow—particularly within a construction/project-based environment.
The ideal candidate must be highly detail-oriented, analytical, and disciplined, with a strong understanding of financial systems, project costing, and operational finance.
Key Responsibilities
Financial Management & Reporting
Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports
Monitor financial performance and provide insights to management
Ensure accuracy, completeness, and integrity of financial records
Develop and maintain financial dashboards and reports
Budgeting & Cost Control (Very Critical)
Develop and manage project and operational budgets
Work closely with Quantity Surveyors and Operations team on cost estimates
Track project expenses against approved budgets
Identify cost-saving opportunities and prevent budget overruns
Cash Flow & Treasury Management
Manage cash flow to ensure smooth project execution
Monitor inflows and outflows across projects
Ensure proper fund allocation and utilization
Prepare cash flow forecasts and financial plans
Procurement & Financial Oversight
Provide financial control over procurement processes
Verify and approve financial aspects of purchase requests
Ensure value-for-money in all expenditures
Monitor vendor payments and financial commitments
Compliance & Statutory Obligations
Ensure compliance with tax regulations (PAYE, VAT, WHT, etc.)
Manage statutory remittances and filings
Ensure adherence to financial policies and internal controls
Prepare for audits and liaise with external auditors
Internal Controls & Process Improvement
Develop and enforce financial control systems and procedures
Ensure proper documentation and audit trails for all transactions
Identify financial risks and implement mitigation strategies
Strengthen accountability across financial operations
Payroll & Staff Financial Management
Oversee payroll preparation and salary disbursement
Ensure proper deductions (tax, pension, etc.)
Maintain confidentiality and accuracy in staff financial records
Strategic Financial Support
Support management with financial planning and decision-making
Provide insights on profitability, cost structure, and financial health
Contribute to business growth strategies and expansion plans
Requirements & Qualifications
Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
Professional certification (ICAN, ACCA, or equivalent) is highly preferred
Minimum of 5 - 8 years experience in finance, preferably in construction, real estate, or project-based environment
Strong knowledge of financial reporting, budgeting, and cost control
Proficiency in accounting software and Microsoft Excel
Good understanding of Nigerian tax laws and financial regulations
