Reports To: HESQ Officer / Warehouse Supervisor (safety matters escalate directly to Client\'s HESQ Manager)

About the Role


Our Client is seeking certified, safety-conscious Fire Marshals to provide on-shift fire prevention and emergency response cover at the Mombasa fertilizer terminal. The successful candidates will inspect fire safety equipment and escape routes, lead evacuation and initial response in the event of a fire, and support the HESQ Officer in maintaining a zero-incident safety culture across warehouse, blending and loading operations. A minimum of two certified Fire Marshals must be present on site per shift at all times.


Key Responsibilities


Conduct routine fire-hazard inspections of warehouse, blending and yard areas, and report hazards immediately to the HESQ Officer.
Check fire extinguishers, hose reels, alarm call points and emergency lighting are in place, unobstructed, in-date and undamaged; log findings in the fire safety register.
Verify fire exits, escape routes and assembly points remain clear at all times, and support enforcement of hot-works permits and no-smoking rules.
Act as first responder to any fire alarm or incident: raise the alarm, use available firefighting equipment where safe to do so, and initiate evacuation.
Lead and account for workers during evacuation drills and real emergencies, using headcounts against the shift attendance register.
Liaise with local fire and rescue services on arrival and support their response until the scene is handed over.
Participate in incident investigation and root-cause reporting for any fire-related event, escalating to the HESQ Officer within Client\'s required notification timelines.
Deliver toolbox talks and refresher fire-awareness briefings to warehouse workers, and support fire safety input into new-worker site inductions.
Maintain the fire extinguisher inspection log, fire drill register and training attendance records, and make these available to Client\'s HESQ team on request.
Strictly adhere to Client\'s Golden Rules, drug and alcohol policy, and PPE requirements at all times.
Perform any other warehouse safety duties assigned by the HESQ Officer or contractor management.


Qualifications & Experience


Minimum KCSE certificate or equivalent.
At least 1 - 2 years\' experience in a fire warden, security, HSE support, or warehouse/industrial safety role; port, terminal or bulk-commodity handling experience is an advantage.
Physically fit and able to work rotating shifts, including high-season 11 - 12 hour shifts.
Clear spoken and written English and Kiswahili, with the ability to give instructions calmly under pressure.
Demonstrated safety-first mindset and attention to detail.


Mandatory Certifications


Valid Fire Marshal / Fire Warden certification from a recognized training provider (mandatory, no exceptions).
Valid First Aid certificate (a minimum of two certified first aiders/fire marshals must be on site per shift; a worker may hold both certifications).
Valid Certificate of Good Conduct.
Willingness to complete Clients site-specific HESQ induction, hazard identification, emergency response and Golden Rules training before commencing duties.
