Where will the position fit in?


We are looking for a flexible and skilled Floating Technician to support fibre network operations across multiple areas and teams. This role requires a technician who can adapt quickly, respond to network incidents, and assist with installations, maintenance, and troubleshooting wherever needed. You will play a key role in maintaining service quality and supporting high-demand regions.


​Job Duties:


Assist in the installation of network infrastructure and equipment as per site plan.
Monitor and maintain boot stock for installation team vehicles.
Responsible for the electrical and hard tool inventory to be used for site installations.
Adhere to standard health and safety regulations.
Provide technical support across various teams and areas based on operational needs.
Perform fibre splicing, testing, and fault-finding to restore connectivity.
Support fibre installations for residential, business, and backhaul clients.
Respond to network outages and service disruptions across multiple zones.
Conduct preventive maintenance checks on fibre infrastructure.
Collaborate with route teams, NOC, and contractors to ensure network uptime.
Maintain accurate records of work completed and update relevant systems.
Assist with emergency call-outs and after-hours support as needed.
Ensure all work is completed according to health, safety, and quality standards.


Requirements


Matric Certificate (Grade 12)
Proven experience in cable floating, installation, or related cable work.
Familiarity with cable blowing machines, compressors, and hand/power tools.
Valid Driver's License (Code B) is essential.
2+ years of experience in fibre installation, splicing, or maintenance
Strong fault-finding and diagnostic skills
Willingness to travel between areas in Cape Town and work on a rotating standby schedule
Excellent communication, time management, and adaptability
Ability to work independently and in diverse environments
Physical ability to lift heavy equipment, work in confined spaces, and perform tasks outdoors in various weather conditions.


Preferred Skills:


Experience with fiber optic cable handling and installation.
Knowledge of cable test equipment (e.g., OTDR, DIT).
Basic knowledge of network systems and infrastructure.
Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and schematics.
