MBCHB / MBBCH qualification and other relevant qualifications. Certificate of registration with the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA) as a Medical Practitioner.
Valid current annual registration with the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA). This is a postgraduate specialist training post on the Joint Staff Establishment of the Gauteng Forensic Medical Services, and the Department of Forensic Pathology, University of the Witwatersrand.
Successful candidates will be required to fulfil both the service delivery obligations of the Gauteng Department of Health/Forensic Pathology Service and the academic, teaching, research, examination and training requirements prescribed by the University of the Witwatersrand and the Colleges of Medicine of South Africa for specialist registration in Forensic Pathology.
Service responsibilities include routine and after-hours medico-legal death investigations, forensic autopsies, court attendance, report writing and participation in departmental quality assurance activities.
Academic responsibilities include registration for and completion of the MMed (Forensic Pathology), participation in formal teaching programme, preparation and presentation of academic seminars, completion of required research activities, satisfactory progression through CMSA examinations, and contribution to undergraduate and postgraduate teaching programmes of the University of the Witwatersrand.
Candidate must demonstrate willingness and ability to participate fully in clinical service delivery, academic duties and to progress satisfactorily throughout the registrar appointment.
Ability and willingness to perform duties outside of normal hours and away from base of employment when required, including overnight and weekend calls, with availability at the relevant Facility / scene within 30 - 45 minutes of the call being logged;
A valid driver's license. Computer literacy (MS Word, Outlook, Excel and PowerPoint); Good working knowledge of relevant FPS legislation and policies; Planning to specialize in Forensic Pathology Good written and verbal communication skills and interpersonal skills.


Duties :


Providing comprehensive medico-legal investigation of death services, inclusive of death scene attendance, after-hour services during the week and over weekends, performance of forensic post mortem examinations including medico-legal autopsies, preparation of relevant medico-legal reports and Court attendance; Active participation in own MMed research activities within the Department; Training in the performance of microscopic histopathological examinations and training on relevant cases;
Supporting the implementation of a standardized, quality forensic pathology service by providing training for professional and support staff; Participation in teaching, research and learning activities in the Department; Assisting the Head: Clinical Unit in academic and management duties. Rendering other related professional services and duties as may be assigned from time to time.
