Job Summary
We are seeking a skilled, proactive, and safety-conscious Generator Maintenance Technician (Electrical) to operate, maintain, and troubleshoot all diesel generator systems and associated electrical infrastructure within our production and facility operations.
The role will focus on ensuring reliable power supply, preventive maintenance, fault diagnosis, and efficient generator performance to support uninterrupted business operations. Prior experience in industrial generator maintenance, electrical systems, and power management is essential.
Key Responsibilities
Generator Operations & Maintenance:
Operate, monitor, and maintain diesel generators and associated electrical systems.
Perform routine inspections, servicing, preventive maintenance, and breakdown repairs of generator sets.
Diagnose and troubleshoot electrical faults in generators, control panels, ATS (Automatic Transfer Switch), switchgear, and distribution boards.
Ensure optimal generator performance, fuel efficiency, and minimal downtime.
Preventive Maintenance & Planning:
Develop and implement preventive maintenance schedules for generators and electrical systems.
Maintain accurate maintenance logs, service records, breakdown reports, and equipment history.
Carry out load testing and performance evaluations of generators.
Electrical Systems Support:
Support maintenance of facility electrical systems, including cabling, panels, lighting, earthing, and power distribution.
Ensure safe switching, isolation, and restoration of power supply.
Fuel Monitoring & Reporting:
Monitor diesel consumption and generator running hours.
Prepare and submit daily generator and diesel usage reports.
Support fuel efficiency and cost optimization initiatives.
Safety, Compliance & Documentation:
Ensure compliance with electrical safety standards, company HSE policies, and statutory regulations.
Enforce lock-out/tag-out procedures, PPE usage, and safe working practices.
Support internal and external audits by providing maintenance and operational records.
Spare Parts & Inventory Control:
Identify spare parts requirements, prepare material requests, and ensure availability of critical spares.
Maintain proper tools and spare parts inventory.
Qualifications & Experience
Education:
OND / HND / Trade Test Certificate in Electrical Engineering, Power Systems, or a related technical discipline.
Experience & Skills:
Minimum of 3 - 5 years' hands-on experience in generator maintenance and industrial electrical systems.
Strong knowledge of diesel generators, control panels, ATS, switchgear, and power distribution systems.
Proven troubleshooting and fault-diagnosis skills.
Good understanding of preventive maintenance practices, electrical safety standards, and HSE compliance.
Ability to prepare daily generator logs and diesel consumption reports.
Strong organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
High level of integrity, discipline, and attention to detail.
