Purpose for the Job
The role is responsible for establishing and leading Minet's Private Client business, delivering sustainable revenue growth while positioning the company as the preferred risk and wealth advisory partner for High Net Worth (HNW), Ultra High Net Worth (UHNW), and Affluent clients across East Africa.
Duties and Responsiblities
Strategy & P&L: Own the unit strategy, annual budget, pipeline, revenue forecast, profitability and agreed growth milestones.
Segment Development: Define and manage propositions for UHNW, HNW, emerging affluent, family office, multi-cultural markets, diaspora and executive-client segments.
Business Origination: Personally lead acquisition of strategic private client portfolios through board-level, private banking, family office and entrepreneur networks.
Referral Ecosystem: Build structured referral partnerships with private banks, investment advisers, law firms, tax advisers, real estate developers, luxury asset dealers, motor dealers and corporate executive networks.
Private Client Solutions: Coordinate bespoke solutions for high-value homes, contents, jewellery, fine art, collections, prestige motor, personal liability, cyber/privacy, travel, medical evacuation, K&R and domestic staff exposures.
Placement & Technical Quality: Ensure insurer selection, policy wording, premium adequacy, reinsurance support and endorsements are technically sound, compliant and defensible.
Client Experience & Claims Advocacy: Deliver discreet, high-touch service standards, claims concierge support, escalation management and periodic portfolio reviews.
Governance & Compliance: Enforce IRA compliance, KYC, AML, sanctions screening, data protection, confidentiality, conflict-of-interest and reputational-risk controls.
Team & Capability: Design the operating model, recruit and coach relationship managers, associate RMs and service support, and embed a high-performance advisory culture.
Performance Reporting: Maintain disciplined MI on pipeline conversion, revenue, retention, cross-sell, service SLAs, claims outcomes and partner productivity.
Business Leadership: Build and lead a profitable High Net Worth (HNW), Ultra High Net Worth (UHNW) and Affluent Client business, targeting Kes. 100M revenue within three years through acquisition, retention, cross-sell and specialist placement solutions.
Client Proposition: Develop a differentiated private client value proposition for family offices, business owners, senior executives, emerging wealth and priority affinity segments.
Key Competencies
Minimum 10 years' experience in insurance broking, private banking, wealth management, bancassurance, insurer private-client business or related financial services.
Demonstrable network within HNW/UHNW, business-owner, private banking, professional adviser or executive-client markets, with a strong record of trusted relationship-led origination.
Knowledge And Skills Required
Private Client Advisory: Strong understanding of affluent client needs, wealth preservation, lifestyle assets, family office dynamics and confidential relationship management.
Technical Insurance Acumen: Working knowledge of private client, general insurance, specialty lines, personal liability, cyber/privacy, marine/aviation, fine art and high-value asset protection.
Commercial Origination: Proven ability to originate, convert and retain high-value relationships through senior networks and referral ecosystems.
Executive Presence & Discretion: Ability to engage UHNW clients, CEOs, family offices, banks and professional advisers with credibility, judgment and confidentiality.
Negotiation & Structuring: Ability to negotiate bespoke wordings, insurer capacity, pricing, service terms and claims outcomes without creating unacceptable E&O exposure.
Leadership & Matrix Working: Ability to lead a new business unit while coordinating Retail, Corporate, Technical, Claims, Operations, Compliance and Specialty teams.
Professional and Academic Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Business, Finance, Economics, Insurance, Actuarial Science or related fields. MBA or relevant postgraduate qualification will be an added advantage.
Diploma in Insurance (ACII/IIK).
