Supreme Processing has an opportunity available for a Health and Safety Officer in the SHERQ department. The successful candidate will be responsible for managing and overseeing all Health, Safety, and Environmental (HSE) functions within a fast-paced food production environment, ensuring full compliance with statutory requirements and company standards. The successful candidate will report directly to the Operations Manager.
Minimum Requirements
Health and Safety qualification (e.g., SAMTRAC or equivalent).
Minimum of 3 years' experience in Occupational Health, Safety and Environmental management within a food manufacturing or poultry processing environment.
Sound knowledge and working experience with:
OHS Act 85 of 1993
COID Act
National Environmental Management Act
Knowledge of food safety standards and hygiene controls within high-risk processing environments.
Previous experience in a poultry processing plant manufacturing will be advantageous.
Computer literacy in MS Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and MS Word.
Duties and Responsibilities
Manage and oversee the full HSE function within the further processing plant.
Conduct routine safety inspections across the site,
Maintain and update OHS files, compliance registers, and statutory documentation.
Coordinate and arrange legally required training, including safety inductions.
Investigate, document, and report Injuries on Duty (IOD) to relevant authorities (Department of Labour, etc.).
Conduct toolbox talks focusing on machine safety, PPE compliance, and safe work practices.
Enforce Lockout/Tagout procedures, confined space entry requirements, and safe operating procedures.
Manage contractor compliance, including inductions, 37(2) agreements, and COID verification.
Monitor visitor and contractor adherence to site safety and hygiene standards.
Conduct risk assessments, internal audits, and incident investigations.
Develop and implement HSE policies and corrective action plans.
Manage staff medical surveillance programs (entry, annual, exit medicals).
Compile and present weekly and monthly HSE reports to Management
