Job Purpose
The Hospital Housekeeper is responsible for maintaining a clean, sanitary, and safe environment for patients, staff, and visitors. This role is critical in preventing infections and ensuring compliance with healthcare hygiene standards.
Key Responsibilities
Clean and disinfect patient rooms, wards, operating areas, and public spaces according to hospital protocols
Perform routine cleaning tasks such as sweeping, mopping, dusting, and waste disposal
Properly handle and dispose of medical and general waste following safety guidelines
Sanitize high-touch surfaces (e.g., bed rails, door handles, medical equipment) regularly
Replenish supplies such as soap, hand sanitizers, and paper products
Respond promptly to spills, contamination, or emergency cleaning needs
Follow infection prevention and control procedures at all times
Use cleaning chemicals and equipment safely and appropriately
Report maintenance issues or safety hazards to the supervisor
Maintain confidentiality and respect patient privacy
Qualifications and Requirements
Certificate or secondary school education (KCSE or equivalent preferred)
Previous housekeeping experience, preferably in a hospital or healthcare facility
Knowledge of infection control and hygiene standards is an added advantage
Ability to follow instructions and work independently or as part of a team
Good physical stamina and ability to handle manual tasks
Basic communication skills (English and/or Kiswahili)
