An HSE Officer is responsible for ensuring that all architectural projects, office operations, and construction-related activities comply with health, safety, and environmental regulations. The officer develops and implements safety policies, conducts risk assessments, promotes a safe working environment, and ensures compliance with relevant laws and industry standards.
Key Responsibilities
Develop, implement, and monitor health, safety, and environmental policies and procedures.
Conduct regular site inspections and safety audits.
Identify workplace hazards and recommend corrective actions.
Carry out risk assessments for architectural and construction projects.
Ensure compliance with local and company HSE regulations.
Investigate accidents, incidents, and near-misses and prepare reports.
Organize safety training, inductions, and awareness programs for employees and contractors.
Monitor the use of personal protective equipment (PPE).
Maintain HSE records, documentation, and reports.
Coordinate emergency preparedness and response activities.
Advise management on safety improvements and regulatory requirements.
Monitor environmental impacts and ensure proper waste management practices.
Requirements
Educational Qualifications
Bachelor's degree or Higher National Diploma (HND) in Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Science, Engineering, Architecture, or a related field.
Professional Certifications
Preferred certifications may include:
Institute of Safety Professionals of Nigeria certification.
National Examination Board in Occupational Safety and Health Certificate or Diploma.
Occupational Safety and Health Administration certification.
First Aid and CPR certification.
Experience
1 - 3 years of HSE experience, preferably in architecture, construction, engineering, or related industries.
Experience conducting safety inspections and risk assessments.
