IoT Field Deployment Specialist at Kaplo Africa

About the Project


We are deploying a structured farm performance monitoring pilot involving LoRaWAN-based soil moisture and environmental sensors on a commercial maize farm.
We require an experienced IoT Field Deployment Specialist to supervise installation, configure network infrastructure, and provide technical onboarding to our field operations team.


Scope of Work


Configure and deploy LoRaWAN gateway (including SIM/network setup where applicable)
Register and activate Dragino (or similar) soil moisture sensors
Ensure proper device pairing and data transmission to platform/dashboard
Supervise first field installation (2 - 5 hectares)
Validate installation depth and sensor placement from a technical standpoint
Conduct signal strength and connectivity testing on-site
Troubleshoot network or hardware issues
Train internal field officer on:
Device activation
Installation protocols
Basic troubleshooting
Develop a concise Installation & Deployment SOP document
Provide post-installation validation and system stability check


Required Qualifications


Demonstrated experience deploying LoRaWAN or similar IoT systems
Hands-on experience with gateway configuration and sensor registration
Familiarity with agricultural or outdoor sensor deployments (preferred)
Strong troubleshooting and field problem-solving skills
Ability to work independently in outdoor farm environments
Clear documentation and communication skills


Preferred Experience:


Experience with Dragino devices or similar IoT hardware
Familiarity with The Things Network (TTN), ChirpStack, or related platforms
Background in embedded systems, telecom engineering, or field network setup

Field-tested and validated deployment
Trained field operations staff
Documented installation and troubleshooting protocol
