The Role
This is not a programme delivery role.
It is a market-growth mandate-IPE Global already operates in Africa through its Nairobi subsidiary (IPE Global Africa Limited) and its Addis Ababa Ethiopia office, with established relationships across AfDB, FCDO, GIZ, AFD, and UNEP Africa. You will convert this institutional footprint into a revenue-generating, technically differentiated Climate Change & Sustainability practice — positioning IPE Global as Africa's go-to partner for climate risk intelligence, green transition advisory, and climate finance mobilisation across the Horn of Africa, East Africa, and Sub-Saharan Africa.
Revenue & Pipeline Ownership — Primary Accountability:
Own and deliver the Africa CCS revenue target — USD 5 - 8 million within 36 months — with full P&L accountability across Ethiopia, Kenya, and the broader Africa portfolio
Build and manage a probability-weighted Africa bid pipeline of USD 25 - 50 million by Month 12 — tracked in real time in IPE Global's BD Tracker with stage-gate
Generate qualified Expressions of Interest (EOIs)
Apply rigorous go/no-go commercial discipline — evaluating each Africa opportunity against IPE Global's competitive position, teaming options, bid cost, and strategic fit
Lead end-to-end bid management for major Africa opportunities — consortium formation, technical proposal authorship, financial modelling, and presentation to donor evaluation panels — for mandates funded by AfDB, GCF, FCDO, GIZ, AFD, and bilateral climate finance institutions.
Leverage IPE Global's existing Ethiopia and Kenya office infrastructure, client relationships, and operational footprint to accelerate CCS market entry — converting general development consulting relationships into dedicated climate and sustainability mandates.
Identify and pursue opportunities for multi-country Africa CCS programmes — spanning Ethiopia, Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, Rwanda, Mozambique, Ghana, and Senegal — building a continent-level portfolio rather than a single-country practice.
Client Account Management:
Build and own a structured portfolio of 5 - 7 institutional client accounts across Africa — applying Client Account Management (CAM) methodology consistent account leadership frameworks: defined relationship maps, account growth plans, and annual revenue targets per account.
Build institutional relationships with the Africa Climate Finance Alliance (ACFA), AUDA-NEPAD, the African Ministerial Conference on the Environment (AMCEN), and national climate change directorates in Ethiopia and Kenya — positioning IPE Global CCS as a trusted technical partner at the highest institutional level.
Develop and manage relationships with Ethiopia's Green Economy Strategy and Climate Resilience Green Economy (CRGE) Facility, Kenya's National Climate Change Authority (NCCAK), and the East Africa Community (EAC) climate secretariat — translating government mandate relationships into programme delivery opportunities.
Identify and execute cross-sectoral opportunities across IPE Global's broader Africa portfolio (governance, health systems, urban infrastructure, education) within existing donor and government relationships — maximising total account value.
Thought Leadership & Brand — Content-Led BD for Africa:
Publish a minimum of two flagship Africa knowledge products annually — climate vulnerability country profiles, green economy transition briefs, Horn of Africa multi-hazard risk analyses — positioning IPE Global CCS as the premier technical partner for climate resilience in Sub-Saharan Africa.
Build IPE Global CCS's Africa media presence — op-eds in regional outlets (The East African, Business Daily Africa, Addis Fortune, Business & Financial Times Ghana), LinkedIn thought leadership, and conference speaking at African Climate Week (ACW), AMCEN, Africa Adaptation Summit, and COP Africa Group side events.
Lead South-South knowledge transfer — exporting IPE Global's India-developed Climate Risk Observatory, Multi-Hazard Risk Atlas, Model Heat Action Plan, and climate vulnerability methodology to Africa, positioning these tools as the Global South alternative to OECD-country technical assistance that has historically dominated African climate programming.
Develop and maintain IPE Global CCS's Africa capability statement, credentials library, and donor-specific pitch materials — ensuring every BD opportunity is supported by a market-tested, donor-tailored credentials package.
Candidate Profile:
Education:
Masters or PhD in Climate Science, Environmental Policy, Development Economics, African Studies, International Development, or related field. Professional certification in climate finance (GCF accreditation, CFA-ESG), project management (PMP/PRINCE2), or GIS is an asset.
Experience:
13+ years, with 7+ years in a revenue-accountable BD or Practice Growth role in international development consulting- specifically with demonstrated win history in Sub-Saharan Africa, East Africa, or the Horn of Africa.
Commerical Task Record:
Proven history of winning and managing USD 5M+ donor-funded contracts in Africa. Quantified pipeline management with documented win rates. Experience with AfDB, FCDO, GIZ, AFD, USAID, or DANIDA Africa procurement.
Technical Credentials:
Deep expertise in Africa climate risk, multi-hazard vulnerability, adaptation planning, NDC/NAP implementation, green economy transition, and climate finance (GCF, AfDB CIF, Africa Climate Foundation). Experience with REDD+, NbS, Loss and Damage, and CRGE implementation strongly preferred.
Institutional Networks
Senior relationships with AfDB, FCDO Africa, GIZ East Africa, AFD Ethiopia/Kenya, USAID/East Africa, African Union, UNEP Africa, or IGAD. Ethiopia CRGE Facility and Kenya NCCAK relationships highly valued.
Languages
Excellent written and spoken English essential. Amharic, Swahili, or French proficiency a significant competitive advantage for the dual-hub mandate.
