Purpose Statement
To optimize the reliability and availability of physical assets by designing, planning, and scheduling all facilities maintenance activities (preventative, predictive, and corrective). The role serves as the strategic link between operational requirements and technical execution, ensuring minimal disruption to the core business while maintaining statutory compliance.
Minimum Requirements
Qualifications
Grade 12
National Diploma in Engineering (Mechanical/Electrical/Chemical) or a related field (NQF Level 6).
Certificate in Maintenance Planning / Work Control.
SAMTRAC or equivalent Health & Safety qualification is advantageous
Project Management training certificate advantageous
Maintenance & Reliability training certificate advantageous
Work experiance
3 or more years relevant work experience within the maintenance planning and execution environment.
Proven experience in Resource Levelling: Balancing maintenance workloads against available man-hours.
Shutdown Management: Experience planning and executing facility shutdowns or turnarounds.
Technical Reporting: Experience translating technical maintenance data into management reports (KPIs/Trends).
Contractor Management: Tracking and scheduling specialized third-party service providers.
Duties and Responsibilities
FUNCTIONAL MANAGEMENT
Work Order Management & Scheduling:
Plan and schedule facilities assignments and projects in collaboration with the Department Head and BU Managers.
Scope work orders: identify labor requirements, materials, specialized tools, and necessary permits.
Administer all ad-hoc or short-notice changes to plans and record internal planning postponements.
Chair weekly scheduling meetings with Facilities and Business Units to resolve priority conflicts.
System Administration:
Maintain the internal planning master schedule and update job statuses on the planning system.
Verify the status of IRQs (Internal Request Queries) within set timelines.
Maintain a digital and physical library of technical manuals and "As-Built" drawings.
Logistics Coordination:
Coordinate with Procurement to ensure spare parts and specialized vendors are available for planned shutdowns.
RISK AND COMPLIANCE MANAGEMENT
Governance & Audit:
Adhere to fraud controls, risk prevention principles, and sound governance processes.
Support and provide evidence for internal/external audits and regulatory requirements.
Maintain quality risk management standards in line with ISO and regulatory requirements.
Statutory Compliance:
Ensure all statutory inspections (Lifts, HVAC, Fire, Pressure Vessels, etc.) are scheduled and documented in compliance with the OHS Act 85 of 1993.
Review Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) to ensure business optimization and legal adherence.
Asset Management:
Maintain the accuracy of the Asset Register and Technical Hierarchy
Monitor and report on key metrics: Backlog, PM Compliance, Mean Time Between Failures (MTBF) and Mean Time to Repair (MTTR).
STAKEHOLDER MANAGEMENT

Provide data-driven input for CAPEX and OPEX planning cycles.
