Job Description

Duties and Responsibilities


Ensuring optimization of water treatment and water quality control processes
Recommending and implementing departmental goals and objectives.
Establishing operational standards and methods for water and wastewater treatment and distribution system.
Developing and implementing policies and procedures.
Directing the preparation and periodic updates to the water quality monitoring program in collaboration with the Laboratory Services.
Ensuring implementation of quality assurance/quality control measures consistent with certification requirements.
Ensuring that water and sewerage infrastructure is operated and maintained to the required standards;
Evaluating plant and distribution system operations and recommends and prioritizes upgrades, major modifications, and repairs of water treatment, distribution, and storage facilities.
Making budget recommendations to the Chief Manager Technical Services.
Scheduling and assigning work and conduct performance appraisals.
Developing operational and maintenance programs and ensuring implementation.
Monitoring water distribution systems and ensure timely response to anomalies.
Identifying areas of the network that require replacement or rationalization.
Ensuring preparation of daily, weekly and monthly reports and submit them to Corporate Management Team (CMT).
Planning, organizing, and directing the day-to-day operation of the wastewater treatment plant.
Determining service levels and establishing operating criteria for operators.
Reviewing operation and recommending facility improvements.
Providing overall supervision of major works;


Person Specification

For appointment to this grade, an officer must have:


A minimum of Ten (10) years cumulative relevant work experience three (3) years of which should have been Senior Principal Officer or a comparable position.
Master's Degree from a recognized Institution shall be an added advantage.
Bachelor's degree in water/ civil engineering from a recognized Institution.
Management Course lasting not less than four (4) weeks from a recognized Institution.
Must be registered with Engineers Board of Kenya.
Being proficient in Computer Applications.
