Job Summary
We are seeking a motivated and technically inclined Mechanical Engineer - Graduate Engineer Trainee (GET) to join our Engineering and Maintenance team in Lagos.
The successful candidate will undergo structured on-the-job training and gain practical experience in mechanical maintenance, equipment troubleshooting, preventive maintenance, machinery installation, reliability improvement, and industrial engineering operations.
This role is ideal for a recent Mechanical Engineering graduate who is eager to develop practical engineering skills and build a long-term career in industrial maintenance and operations.
Key Responsibilities
Assist senior mechanical engineers with the operation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of mechanical equipment and systems.
Support preventive and corrective maintenance activities on industrial machinery and equipment.
Assist in diagnosing mechanical faults, equipment breakdowns, and abnormal operating conditions.
Conduct routine inspections of pumps, compressors, motors, gearboxes, conveyors, valves, bearings, fans, and other mechanical equipment.
Support the preparation and implementation of preventive maintenance schedules.
Assist with equipment installation, alignment, dismantling, repair, assembly, and commissioning activities.
Monitor equipment condition and report unusual noise, vibration, temperature, leakage, or other abnormalities.
Assist in identifying recurring equipment failures and recommending corrective actions under the supervision of experienced engineers.
Support mechanical maintenance and improvement projects.
Read and interpret mechanical drawings, equipment manuals, layouts, and technical specifications.
Assist with basic measurements, equipment inspections, and technical assessments.
Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities, breakdowns, inspections, repairs, and equipment performance.
Assist with spare-parts identification, inventory requirements, and technical specifications.
Work closely with Production, Electrical, Instrumentation, HSE, and other departments to resolve equipment-related issues.
Support contractors and technicians during maintenance, installation, and project activities.
Ensure maintenance activities are performed in accordance with approved procedures and engineering standards.
Observe and comply with company HSE policies, permit-to-work systems, lockout/tagout (LOTO), and other safety requirements.
Participate in toolbox meetings, technical training, maintenance reviews, and engineering improvement initiatives.
Assist in monitoring equipment efficiency and identifying opportunities to reduce downtime and maintenance costs.
Prepare basic maintenance reports and technical updates as required.
Participate in root-cause analysis and continuous improvement activities.
Keep up to date with relevant mechanical engineering technologies, maintenance practices, and industry standards.
Perform other duties assigned by the Engineering Manager or supervising engineer.
Requirements & Qualifications
Bachelor's Degree or HND in Mechanical Engineering from a recognized institution.
0 - 2 years of relevant experience; fresh graduates are encouraged to apply.
NYSC completion/discharge certificate or exemption letter where applicable.
Strong interest in mechanical engineering, industrial maintenance, and equipment reliability.
Basic knowledge of mechanical systems, rotating equipment, hydraulics, pneumatics, bearings, pumps, compressors, and power transmission systems.
Ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings and equipment manuals.
Basic understanding of preventive and corrective maintenance principles.
Knowledge of condition monitoring techniques is an advantage.
Familiarity with AutoCAD or other relevant engineering software is an advantage.
Good proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel and Word.
Relevant technical, mechanical, HSE, or professional certifications will be an added advantage.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
Good communication and interpersonal skills.
Willingness to learn and participate in hands-on maintenance activities.
Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced industrial environment.
