Mechanical Support Manager, Iraq
The starting salary package for this position is £60,356 GBP per annum (approx. $79,200 USD) including all allowances
About MAG:
MAG (Mines Advisory Group) is an international humanitarian organisation based in Manchester, UK, and working in 32 countries. We remove landmines and unexploded ordnance to release safe and productive land for communities, and work to reduce the threat of armed violence by supporting governments to safely manage weapons and ammunition. In 1997, MAG was a co-recipient of the Nobel Peace Prize for our work campaigning for the Anti-Personnel Mine Ban Convention.
About the role:
In this role, you’ll take the lead in managing and safeguarding all mechanical assets across our operational bases, ensuring vehicles, heavy machinery, and generators are maintained, repaired, and ready to support life-saving work. You’ll oversee workshops, as well as mechanical and workshop staff, develop innovative mechanical solutions, and build local capacity through training and accreditation. Working with us means applying your expertise in challenging humanitarian settings where your skills directly reduce risk and enable communities to recover from the impact of conflict. This is a chance to make a tangible difference, driving efficiency and resilience in environments where reliability truly matters.
About you:
You will have experience in managing, maintaining, and repairing multiple mechanical assets across different locations within a developing country, as well as experience of working in a fast-paced environment with the ability to coordinate and prioritise in order to meet deadlines. You will have the ability to find creative solutions, the confidence to propose new methodologies and mechanical innovations, and excellent communication skills. Areas of operations are often remote with basic amenities, so applicants will need to be able to deal with living and working in challenging environments.
About the Iraq programme:
Following decades of conflict, Iraq is heavily contaminated with landmines and other unexploded ordnance (UXO). MAG has been working in Iraq since 1992 with our Head Office in Erbil and operational bases across northern Iraq. By clearing hazardous areas, MAG has enabled new schools, roads, and hospitals to be built, opened up vital trade routes and allowed communities to use their farming land in safety, giving them greater food security and an escape from poverty.
