Requirements :


Appropriate qualifications that allow registration with HPCSA as Medical Practitioner. HPCSA registration as Medical Practitioner. Proof of current HPCSA registration for April2026/March2027. No experience required after registration with the HPCSA as a Medical Practitioner. The following will be added advantages: Work experience in the field of Obstetrics and Gynaecology. CMSA part 1a (and 1b) examinations. Auxiliary courses relevant to the field of Obstetrics and Gynaecology (example ACLS).


Duties :


The incumbent will be responsible for patient care including interviewing, investigating, diagnosing and treating patients including managing related administrative duties.
The registrar role includes active participation in all discipline-related activities, particularly in teaching and research, as well as involvement in departmental audit processes. Key responsibilities include the preparation and writing of reports, effective liaison and communication with relevant stakeholders, and engagement in community outreach initiatives.
The incumbent will also be required to teach and supervise junior medical staff, including undergraduate students, interns, and community service doctors. Attendance at relevant administrative meetings—such as mortality and near-miss meetings—is mandatory, along with the timely completion of medico-legal documentation (e.g., death certificates). The incumbent is expected to contribute to improving the quality of care by providing appropriate clinical management and reducing medical litigation through adherence to sound clinical practice and ethical standards. The role further requires the implementation and monitoring of compliance with National Core Standards (norms and standards), as well as ensuring accurate administration and proper record-keeping within the department.
The incumbent must be willing to perform commuted overtime, including after-hours duties (nights, weekends, and public holidays), to ensure continuous, uninterrupted patient care.
Registrars will, inter alia, be responsible for delivering clinical services, including the assessment, diagnosis, and treatment of patients. They will be rotated through related departments across various hospitals including but not limited to, Chris Hani Baragwanath Academic Hospital, Charlotte Maxeke Johannesburg Academic Hospital, Rahima Moosa Mother and Child Hospital, Klerksdorp/Tshepong Hospital Complex, Potchefstroom Hospital, Sebokeng Hospital, Leratong Hospital, Edenvale Hospital and Thelle Mogoerane Hospital.
