SOLIDARITES INTERNATIONAL (SI) is an international humanitarian aid association which, since more than 40 years, has been providing assistance to populations affected by armed conflicts and natural disasters by meeting their basic needs for food, water and shelter. Particularly committed to the fight against diseases linked to unsafe water, the leading cause of death in the world, SI's interventions provide expertise in the field of access to drinking water, sanitation and hygiene promotion, but also in the essential area of food security and livelihoods. Present in 26 countries, the SI teams – 3200 people in total, made up of expatriates, national staff, permanent staff at HQ, and a few volunteers - intervene with professionalism and commitment while respecting cultural norms.

About the mission

SI has been present in Nigeria for 10 years - since 2016 in Northeast Nigeria and 2020 in the Northwest.
SI’s coordination office is based in Abuja, a regional base in Maudugiri (incluing sub bases in Monguno and Ngala) is supporting operation in Borno state and a second regional base for the NW programs in Gusau town (Zamfara State), with a sub office in Anka. SI is also opening new project and offices in Kebbi state in 2026.
In the Northeast, SI operates in 3 LGAs of Borno state (Monguno, Ngala and Konduga). SI has also intervened in other LGAs includingJere, Maiduguri MMC, Dikwa, Gwoza and Bama in the recent past, as well as in Adamawa under emergency response. In the Northwest, SI intervenes in 5 LGAs of Zamfara state: Gusau, Anka, Talata Mafara, Zurmi and Kaura Namoda, with possible extension in 2026 to emergency operation in Sokoto and Katsina state.

The annual volume of the Nigeria mission is between 4 to 6 M USD.
SI's mission in Nigeria responds to the critical needs of populations affected by conflict, natural disasters and epidemics in the North East and North West of the country, through its traditional sectors of intervention, namely WASH, FSL and Shelter. SI is currently funded by a number of institutional donors, including ECHO, CDCS, INTPA and NHF, with the possibility of further funding depending on the development of the mission's projects.
The mission also relies on a partnership approach, localization and good coordination to strengthen its intervention in the country. It works closely local partners and participates actively in existing coordination platforms.

About the job

General objective:

The Field Coordinator is the representative of the organization at field level.
He/she proposes a strategy for his/her area, according to the geopolitical and humanitarian context, and ensures its implementation once validated.
He/she checks and ensures that projects are carried out in accordance with the Solidarités International charter, respecting all internal and contractual procedures. He/she mobilizes the material and financial resources necessary for programs to run smoothly and supervises resource management.
He/she coordinates the teams in place and is responsible for their security in his/her assigned zone.
He/she represents the organization towards the local authorities, upholding humanitarian principles and ensures smooth communication with country office on any challenge that he/she may face.

The main challenges:

Humanitarian sector in transition and with challenging funding perspective
Dynamic security context requiring strong analysis capacity and decision taking

Priorities for the 2/3 first months:

Projects follow up (especailly FSL activities) and development/kick off
Team management and communication: enforcing interdepartmental communciation
Context & Security follow up in Borno state and area of implementation
Enforcement of compliance process

Security constraints:

Position based in Maiduguri which remain a secured area but with strict security procedure to follow up (level 3). Movement outside GH/office has to be made by SI vehicle, no walking policy and some area are restricted to go.
The city of Maiduguri is implementing a curfew from 11 PM to 6 AM.
Movement to the sub base are restricted for international staff to daily trip during the week (through UNHAS only) and with reinforced/strict security procedures to enforce and follow up (level 4)

Your profile

DIPLOMAS AND EXPERIENCE

Master Degree in humanitarian/development studies, social sciences, management or other related discipline

  • Experience in the humanitarian sector : + 5 years
  • Experience on a similar position : 3 - 4 years

1. Substantial experience in a similar or senior management position in an overseas INGO environment, Experience in SI sectors of expertise (WASH, FSL, Shelter, Emergency)

Ability to manage complex, fast-evolving environments; quickly analyze information; prioritize heavy workloads under tight deadlines; communicate clearly with internal and external stakeholders (negotiations, MoUs, governance); strong understanding of security management; proven experience working with local authorities and partners

SI will offer you

A salaried position:
According to experience, starting from EUR 3080 gross per month (2800 EUR base salary + 10% annual leave allowance paid monthly) and a monthly Per Diem of USD 600.

SI also covers accommodation costs and travel expenses between the expatriate's country of origin and the place of assignment.

Breaks: During the assignment, a system of alternation between work and time off is implemented at the rate of 7 working days every three months (with a USD 850 break allowance, allocated by Sl). To these breaks periods, SI grants one (1) additional rest day per month worked.

Insurance package: Expatriates benefit from an insurance package which refunds all healthcare expenses (including medical and surgical expenses, dental care and ophthalmological expenses, repatriation) and a welfare system including war risks. Essential vaccination and antimalarial treatment costs are refunded.

LIVING CONDITIONS:

Accomodation in Guest House in Maiduguri with a comfortable environment, in spite of limited movements outside of the compound for security reasons (movement by car only - curfew in city from 11 PM) . The Guest House offers good living conditions, with private bedroom and bathroom and shared & comfortable common spaces. Electricity and internet are available at the office and at the GH at all times. All essential good (food, hygiene etc..) can be bought locally in the supermarkets in Maiduguri and restaurant are also available. Sport centers (gym, football, tennis, swimming pool for leisure ... etc) are also accessible in some secured part of Maiduguri.
Overnight in Sub base (Monguno and Ngala) aren't approved at the time being. However frequent visit are required to support and supervise the team through daily round trip with UNHAS.
Periodically passing through Abuja (representation office) to meet with coordination. Abuja is comfortable and safe. Abuja has good markets, high standard medical services, and additional social or sport gathering that ca be used while visiting.
