Job Summary


The Porter assists with the delivery and collection of guests' luggage, parcels, faxes and messages. He also assists in keeping the lobby and Porte Coche neat and tidy, ensuring all guests receive prompt, cordial and efficient attention and service throughout their stay.


Key Duties and Responsibilities


Be well groomed and punctual at all times.
Ensure prompt, accurate and courteous delivery and collection of luggage, parcels and mail, liaising with Concierge and Front Desk.
Ensure correct and secure storage procedures are followed.
Deliver local and international newspapers promptly.
Put up and take down flags timeously and maintain their cleanliness and repair.
Assist the Concierge in keeping public areas, trolleys and storerooms clean and tidy.
Report suspicious persons or unattended luggage and follow security procedures.
Valet park guest cars and ensure keys are securely stored.
Assist with the Doorperson's duties when required.
Be familiar with room facilities, hotel facilities and services and provide general information to guests.
Ensure sign-in and sign-out procedures are completed and approved by the Front Office Manager on duty.
Read, understand and abide by the Employee Handbook and hotel rules and regulations.
Work night shifts when required under the management of the Night Auditor.
Maintain punctuality and attendance and communicate any absence or lateness appropriately.
Perform additional duties outside the Job Description as required.


General and Other Duties

Perform similar duties in any area of the hotel as designated by Management.
Attend required training and continually improve knowledge and skills.
Understand and comply with fire, hygiene, health, safety and emergency evacuation procedures and participate in drills.
Maintain a high standard of personal appearance, hygiene and attire in line with hotel requirements.
Render the highest level of courtesy and service to hotel guests, including duties beyond the main scope of the position when required.
Be flexible and able to perform any other duties as requested.


Interpersonal Relationships


Deal with subordinates and colleagues in a polite and helpful manner.
Resolve employee differences or disputes quietly and away from employees and guests.
Communicate essential information accurately to the appropriate personnel and maintain goodwill, respect and professional relationships.
Keep Management appropriately informed of activities, progress and results and seek guidance when necessary.
Treat instructions from Management constructively and act upon them.


Education or Certification


General good etiquette and very good communication skills.
Read and write English fluently.
Be in good health and able to work flexible hours.
Strong human relations skills with employees and guests.
Outgoing and people orientated.
Must have a valid South African driver's licence.
