Job Purpose
The Nutrition Assistant will support the implementation of community-level nutrition activities including screening, follow-up of beneficiaries, Tom Brown care group activities, and community
mobilization. The position will work closely with Facilitators, CNMs, Lead Mothers, and KSPHCDA to ensure effective delivery of programme activities.
Key Responsibilities
Community Screening and Outreach
Conduct house-to-house nutrition screening using MUAC to identify children with moderate acute malnutrition.
Conduct follow-up visits and home visits for enrolled beneficiaries.
Support routine monitoring and tracking of beneficiary progress.
Supervision of Community Structures
Closely supervise Facilitators and Community Nutrition Mobilizers (CNMs) in coordination with KSPHCDA.
Support the selection and supervision of Lead Mothers across targeted communities.
Ensure smooth implementation of biweekly Tom Brown activities within care groups.
Distribution and Operational Support
Work closely with the Nutrition Officer and KSPHCDA to distribute Non-Food Items (NFIs) to Tom Brown groups and beneficiaries.
Support the distribution and monitoring of Tom Brown blended flour within communities.
Collaborate with KSPHCDA to facilitate processing support for Lead Mothers involved in
Tom Brown activities.
Data Collection and Reporting
Ensure that programme data tools and registers are properly completed by Facilitators.
Compile and submit beneficiary lists and activity reports to the Nutrition Officer.
Support the preparation of monthly programme reports.
Community Engagement
Support community sensitisation and mobilisation activities.
Promote improved infant and young child feeding practices among caregivers.
Other Duties
Perform any other duties assigned by the supervisor to support programme implementation.
Qualifications:
A minimum of Diploma or Bachelor's degree in Nutrition, Dietetics, Public health, Nursing, community Health or related field.
Additional certification in Infant and Young Child Feeding (IYCF),CMAM,or Nutrition in
Emergencies is an added advantage.
Experience:
Minimum of 1-2 years of relevant work experience in Nutrition or health programs, preferably in NGO or humanitarian settings.
Experience in delivering individual and group counseling, as well as providing psychological first aid.
