Requirements :
BSc Degree in Occupational Therapy or equivalent qualification. Currently registered with the HPCSA as an Independent Practice Occupational Therapist. One year community service completed.
Competencies: Knowledge of current health and public service legislation, regulations and policies. Sound knowledge of clinical theory, practice and ethics relating to the delivery of Occupational Therapist services within a hospital setting. Ability to work in a multi-disciplinary team and in a changing environment and under pressure.
Duties :
To provide optimal and evidence-based OT assessments and rehabilitation for patients. Occupational Therapy assessment and treatment of in- and out- patients for individuals and groups. Competent in administering a wide range of standardised assessments. Facilitate the referral processes for all patients (i.e. down referrals, rehab referrals etc.).
Assessment and treatment of hospital staff on occasion. To perform and complete administrative functions including data compilation, stock management, various internal and external meetings, submission of monthly reports and statistics. Participate in the mentorship and daily training of community service therapists and university students.
Participate in the departmental policy on training and continuous professional development. Ensure departmental standards are met and effective patient service delivery, in line with the Ideal Hospital Framework.
