Main duties:
Painting interior and exterior surfaces using varnishes, paint, wall fabrics, stains or sealers.
Mix and match paint, stain and other finishes to job specifications.
Signwriting using stencils, graphics and hand painted lettering.
Preparing surfaces to be painted by washing them, filling holes and cracks with putty and sanding them until they're smooth.
Reads work order or receive instructions from Chain of Command.
Maintains all equipment in a clean, safe and serviceable condition.
Inspects, maintains and correctly wears items of PPE specific to the task.
Keeps workshop tidy at all times especially at the end of each shift or working day.
Responsibility for the use of materials and tools issued for the task including the safe storage and security and protection from the elements.
Responsibility for delivering your own results and those of the team, keeping others informed of progress and possible problems.
Understands and carries out all requirements under Health and Safety for the task including reading, understanding and complying with the workshop risk assessment.
Interpret applicable rules and standards including BATUK standing orders, and all policies, functions and responsibilities, operations, and objectives of the Organisation.
Understands relevant UK, National and local laws, codes and regulations depending on work area.
Secondary duties:
Work is performed indoors and outside. Outside work requires exposure to varying weather and terrain conditions, hazardous traffic conditions, noise, fumes, odours, and gases; exposure to moving equipment and occasional exposure to toxic or caustic chemicals, extreme heat, risk of electrical shock, wet/humid conditions, high, open or confined spaces, intermittent vibration and noise. Work requires frequent standing and walking and occasional bending, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, climbing, crawling, reaching, grasping and lifting and/or moving objects weighing up to 50 pounds. Employees may be required (after sufficient training and experience) to carry out the duties of Working at Height, Confined Spaces and Asbestos competent person.
Understand customers' and suppliers; needs and explore practical solutions with them. You manage expectations by explaining what is and is not possible.
Employees are subject to call-back during emergencies on a 24-hour basis and are required to work occasional evenings, weekends, or holidays during special events.

Competences/qualifications/experience:
Essential:
Government Trade Certificate I (Painter/signwriter).
Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education
Served as a Painter for a minimum of 2 years.
Knowledge and Experience of both Industrial and Domestic and Commercial Painting.
Occupational hazards and standard safety practices and procedures.
Principles and practices of supervision and employee development.
Planning ahead, setting realistic targets.
Work independently and perform duties with minimum supervision.
Be able to comply with relevant Regulations and Codes of Practice.
Able to work with changing priorities and uncertainty.
Desirable:
Hold valid Kenya driving licence (Class B, C1 & C).
Understand and follow oral and written instructions.
Establish and maintain effective working relationships with all personnel.
Policies, functions and responsibilities, operations, and objectives of the Organisation.
