Job Description
The project seeks to strengthen peaceful coexistence, social cohesion, conflict prevention, and community resilience among vulnerable populations in Katsina State.
The Peacebuilding and Social Cohesion Officer will support the design and implementation of interventions that promote dialogue, trust-building, conflict resolution, and inclusive community engagement among diverse groups.
The position aligns with ongoing peacebuilding initiatives within Katsina State.
Purpose of the Position:
To lead and support peacebuilding and social cohesion activities across all project locations, fostering peaceful relationships, strengthening community structures, and promoting inclusive participation to mitigate conflict and enhance community resilience.
Key Responsibilities
Peacebuilding and Conflict Prevention:
Conduct community conflict assessments and stakeholder mapping.
Identify drivers of conflict and recommend mitigation strategies.
Facilitate dialogue sessions, mediation, and conflict resolution initiatives.
Promote peaceful coexistence among diverse community groups.
Support early warning and early response mechanisms.
Social Cohesion Programming:
Design and implement social cohesion activities that strengthen trust and collaboration among communities.
Facilitate engagement between community leaders, women, youth, religious leaders, and local authorities.
Promote inclusive participation and community ownership of project activities.
Support initiatives that strengthen inter-group relations and social inclusion.
Community Engagement:
Mobilize communities for peacebuilding activities and campaigns.
Support the establishment and strengthening of community peace committees and forums.
Facilitate community consultations and participatory decision-making processes.
Promote civic engagement and inclusive dialogue.
Capacity Building:
Train community structures, volunteers, and stakeholders on conflict resolution, mediation, leadership, and peaceful coexistence.
Provide mentoring and technical support to community peace actors.
Develop awareness materials and learning resources on peacebuilding.
Monitoring, Reporting and Learning:
Monitor peacebuilding and social cohesion indicators.
Document conflict trends, lessons learned, and best practices.
Prepare monthly, quarterly, and activity reports.
Contribute to project evaluations and learning processes.
Coordination and Representation:
Represent the organization in relevant peacebuilding, social cohesion, and coordination forums.
Collaborate with government agencies, community leaders, civil society organizations, and development partners.
Maintain effective relationships with stakeholders involved in peace and security initiatives.
Qualifications and Experience
Bachelor's Degree in Peace and Conflict Studies, Sociology, Political Science, International Relations, Development Studies, Social Work, or a related field.
Minimum of three (3) years of relevant experience in peacebuilding, conflict management, social cohesion, community development, or humanitarian programming.
Experience facilitating dialogue, mediation, and community engagement processes.
Strong report writing, facilitation, and stakeholder coordination skills.
