Key Responsibilities


Undertaking and coordinating investigation in the maritime field;
Conducting investigation into maritime casualties including wreck under the Casualty Investigation Code;
Undertaking enquiries with respect to charges of incompetence on the part of the seafarers;
Implementing the Nairobi Wreck Removal Convention;
Taking the command and preservation of vessels and lives of persons and cargo when ship is wrecked in Kenyan waters;
Reporting outcomes of maritime casualty investigations as required by IMO to the DG;
Publishing lessons learned from casualty investigation
Evaluating flag, port and coastal state obligation, performance and effectiveness;
Investigating occupational accidents;
Investigating seafarers and ships certificate suspensions and withdrawal.
