Requirements
Relevant Tertiary Qualification preferably in Engineering (B.Eng./B.Sc. (Eng) / B Tech in Electrical Engineering).
Registered PR Eng or registered PR Eng Tech with ECSA.
At least 3-5 years (post first relevant tertiary qualification) relevant protection experience.
A high degree of computer literacy.
Driver's license: Valid Code B or EB driver's licence.
Key Performance Areas
Manages complex refurbishment projects for the upgrading and replacement of protective relaying and control systems.
Managing all financial aspects of capital projects including progress payments sureties, variation orders, penalties, retention funds and approval of final payment certificates to contractors inclusive of rate of exchange.
Conducts detail designs of protective relaying schemes and control systems for the high voltage and medium voltage distribution systems, including the accurate configuration of protection software and hardware systems as well as substation automation communication protocols.
Implementing accurate and pre-tested relay configurations, algorithms and tripping equations on standard protection relays and schemes.
Investigates and evaluates the condition of protection and control systems in old substations to determine redundancies and to prioritize refurbishment programs on a five-year capital investment program.
Assist in the compilation of a five-year capital refurbishment budget that includes the cost of protection systems in all critical substations to be upgraded as well as the cost of individual protection relays, control systems and communication systems.
Assist in the implementation of procedures and control systems to ensure effective control of processes, technical drawings and project management.
Monitoring procedures and controls for protection system designs in conjunction with the Projects & Design Section and the internal Protection Performance Audit & Settings Section.
Managing the commissioning and handing over of new protection, substation automation and control systems to Distribution areas.
Document final handover of new protection, substation automation and control systems by commissioning staff/contractors to Distribution
